When they start calling "what did your last labrador die of?" then you'll know the game is in a healthy state.

I would like to see some funds presented to get emerging league nations such as the USA playing each other. If a couple of countries found that they were at a similar level, they could have some good contests which would help promote the game. The right countries need to be matched up as often as possible to help prevent blowout scorelines.

Getting guys like Carty over to coach them in camp for a week or so leading up to the games would also make a massive difference. What they learn they can take back to their clubs.

Good call.

It would be good to see the AMNRL eventually reach the standard of ESL. This would enable the U.S. to compete with GB and France at Test level.

Eventually we may end up with a meaningful World Cup

Fox coverage is what's needed.

League players make gridiron players look like a bunch of pussies. If the average NFL fan was to cop a look at a league game, it would take off overnight.

It's easier to understand, it's faster, and the players don't need helmets

I think this is the exact opposite of everything that needs to be said to the American public. You go in there calling the athletes in their favourite competition in the country pussies, you will no doubt get a massive majority offside and probably be in a worse place than where you started from...

I agree, I reckon you need to market the game as an alternative but not as a threat. NFL would hardly even have the AMNRL on its hitlist YET> Find a niche market and develop it to the point that the NFL cant do anything about it if they choose to. Develop players that love the game (like Nate Smith ??) and no amount of money will convince a RL fullback to go become a place kicker and get 4 minutes field time per game!

Good point, but I don't think it would be marketed that way. People will see the game and see you themselves how free-flowing and tough it is.

I'm not suggesting that the game be marketed that way at all.

But consider your average NFL fan in the states, having a channel surf. He flicks on a League game and sees a bunch of blokes hitting as hard as in gridiron, but not dressed up like medieval knights.

He thinks "god damn, them boys is tough. I might watch me some more of this"

We've spent the last 110 years (Almost) being compared to another 'sport'. Even though we really do come off better, I don't think we need the Yankee Media in addition to the Toff Establishment media trying to bury us at every opportunity...

Try and get a team in every major Urban Area North Of Virginia and West of Ohio. 70 million people in a geographically compact area. That's a start. Possibly look at Quebec and Ontario before Pushing West and South.

The TV rights to the internationals alone would be enough to sustain enough tours for five years. The states is a HUGE market and like Ray Chesterton wrote the the DT today, if we can get a niche market then the sky is the limit.

When I get my Level 3 Certificate, I hope to travel to the States to officiate in some of their games. As far as I know, at the moment they are having difficulty in finding referees locally and call on internationals for assistence in their numbers while they set up a foundation for their referees association. Referee Doug Keen from my district has often officiated games in the States including matches against the Irish for the battle of St. Patricks Day.

Good work mate!! :D

Like I have said before this is one of the reasons why RL needs to succed in the States. We are talking about millions of dollars to be made just in the telavision market. Look at what one game brought in. The sport just needs to get to the Americans, so more people will want to watch.

Excuse for not joining in the hype, but what exactly "did one game bring in", Tomahawk?

Between 5-8.000 curious spectators (good effort) and no doubt a ton of mileage in the enthusiasm stakes for the AMNRL lads.

All this talk of being a factor in 2008 is a little too much, isn't it.....?

Four years in a nation's sporting development ain't that much.
