Player abuse...

Tonight was the first time I had an opportunity to watch the Eels live at Parra stadium and I must say I was absolutely disgusted with the way some supporters were abusing players from the team they support.

Poore copped an absolute mouthful of expletives from numerous members of the crowd as he walked to the bench after being subbed. Mannah, Keating and a few others copped it to, but were lucky enough they didn't get subbed and half to walk past this portion of tye crowd.

I can understand fans being upset after paying to see much of the rubbish dished up this season, I can even understand people booing their own team, but some of the stuff I heard at different times during the game no player should have to cop. It's little wonder rumours are swirling he wants to go back to the Dragons and I don't blame him one bit.

Sincerely, An Embarrassed and Ashamed Eels supporter.

Andrew,

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. I want to know does this happen to other teams? Has anyone seen other fans bagging out their own players? or are we the only fortunate ones that have to hear parra fans bagging out their own players.

These IDIOTS behind me screamed out 'ERIC GROTHE UR SO sh*t' and he was within 10 metres of us. He heard it and turned around and looked right at us. I got up and was going off at them so bad because i was so embaressed that they had said that and even more embaressed that he had heard.

I love our team. Through the good and the bad. They need our support especially in times like this. In saying that, there was a very good crowd attendance on the back of our few losses and on a Monday night.

and they all tried thier guts out tonight, there was plenty of effort out there on the field tonight. I think it's the expectation the fans have and with the rise in season ticket holders thanks to last seasons run and the bandwagoners are back and the jump off as quick as the jump on when things get a little tough.

meh, people pay their money they can let their frustrations out.

the players are paid well enough to harden up and deal with it.

A lot of Parramatta fans are like that and like you I am ashamed of it. You will find a lot of that abuse on here as well, that when the team is not going too well some fans think that all the players are totally crap, and they let the players know it. I don't go to my local game and yell out expletives at our own players that I know well, so why should fans say crap like that to Eels players?

I was disappointed tonight but thought that the players tried much harder than the past few weeks. It's just a few 50/50 calls, some critical errors, Hayne's poor positional play and as Anderson said, 'some opportunist tries' cost us dearly in the end.

I didn't like the fact some of the crowd were booing there own team. But what you'll start to see now is the bandwagoner's will start to drop off now as times are tough.

As someone said earlier this is the time the team needs us most and for us to boo them would really upset me as a player. I believe most of the players are putting the effort in but it's just not clicking or happening yet. People can say our season is over, it's only round 5, I think it's time for a few player's to be dropped (Keating, And as much as I hate to say it Hindmarsh) and some fresh new talent needs ot be given a chance e.g. Mitchell. We can't also expect was happened last year to happen again this year and IMO the team needs to sort the problems out by round 10.

Sorry if I've gone off topic just really upset's to see us Parra supporters always expecting such promising things and it never comes true. :(

Yes I am frustrated did I boo my team, no. Did I leave early because I couldnt stand to watch it anymore, yes, I left with 7 mins to go. I would rather leave a few mins early than boo my team, which I have never done.

I love this club, I love the team and I will support them no matter what. But I will always always yell out in frustration if I think something wasnt good enough (ie Morts not finding touch on the penalty kick or Matt Keatings pass to KK which went way infront of him) I will never attack their character or make a general overall assumption. IE I wont say a player is sh*t but rather that kick or pass was sh*t. Usually I will say/yell "thats not good enough _______"

Also Andrew, how did you end up getting to the game? Was the show fun and exciting, or boring and the same thing as the last 5 years as I keep hearing?

I have been a Eels supporter for 35 years & was absolutely disgusted & embarrassed that some Eels fan booed Canberra's Joe Picker when he was injured & being assisted leaving the field after he collected Joel Reddy's boot in the head while going in for a low tackle. They seemed to to think that it was taking too long for him to leave the field. I have also been very disgusted & embarrassed at some Eels supporters abusing our team & players. As a true supporter you have to support the team through the good & the bad times. The players are trying their best but things just are not working for them as a team. They will eventually start to play better as a team & I saw an improvement in that regard tonight although we made a lot of errors which Canberra capitalised on.

yep, we've certainly got some bright sparks supporting our club, I wonder if they released that the time was stopped???

as I've said in the past, there's nothing i hate more than abusing your own players and parra supporters are champions at it but if you pay your money than unfortunately you have every right to express your feeling without physically harming anyone.

Anyone else have the pleasure in sitting near the young lady (and I use that term loosely) who is a member in bay 48? You can't miss her if you do....

Seriously we're tossing up taking an exercise book and writing down some of her gems.

"Pass the ball you f**king piece of sh*t"

"Hayne you piece of sh*t, just run straight, don't do your step"

She also abuses players when they leave the field injured, and is starting to ruin the experience for the members that sit around her I'm sure.
