Fair enough, I’ll accept criticism here. One question though: do you have a source regarding Bennett wanting five-years? I’ve got evidence where he unequivocally says he didn’t want to join Saints for a long term period.

Yes...didn't Bennett state this himself ? Anyway,Doust stated @ the time that we don't do 5 year deals...hence the 3 tear deal for Wayne..

As far as recruitement is concerned, can someone explain to me how the Eels, Raiders and to a lesser extent Manly, given their rosters, made the finals last year and the Warriors and Panthers didn't? Also the Broncos, with their star studded roster only scraping into the 8?

You realise that as great Bennett was for the club, he did SFA in terms of nurturing local junior development at the expense of re-signing a number of players, who should have been told to move on?

In other words, his think of today (not tomorrow) polices were the start of the malaise SGI currently finds itself in.

If only we had coaches like Wayne. Ruthless.

His job was not to provide the club a blueprint of success after he left. That was the job of the board. His obligation was to make the most of his tenure, and he did so , dominating for 3 years.

3 glorious years, were we were the envy of the league.

Its a shame along the way, the Club didn't capitalise on his success. Nowhere was he obliged to make sure SGI was to be successful after his departure. That's on the Club.

Not on Wayne, not on Price and not on Mary. Its on the board of Directors. We should have been where the Chooks are now. End of.

So let me get this right... Our current state is still Bennett's fault?
Sorry, what players were signed to ten years contracts while Bennett was coach? All the contracts he would have overseen have expired long ago.

And he never wanted five years, that's a myth?
Well Saint_JimmyG, if you had been on the forums back in 2011 you might have remember this article...

With a limitless salary cap under Nick Politis’s supervision?

No I can't.

That's why I think its futile trying to predict ladder positions as there will always be teams with quality rosters that underperform, just like there will always be teams that, with a bit of luck, can go on a winning run and end up punching way above their weight come seasons end.

Hence why I dont gamble...

Souths retire Burgess on medical grounds and recruit Arrow as a replacement.
Souths retire Ingles on medical grounds and are favourites to recruit Mitchell.

SGI lose Leilua and have chance to lose De Belin and so they decide to sign Merrin.
SGI lose Dugan, Nightingale, Macdonald, Widdop and replace them with Norman, Lomax, Saab and some reserve grade backs. Where did the salary cap go?

Absolute abismal management of the salary cap and an even poorer replacement player policy

Add to this Bennett > McGregor.

I'll add to that , if we signed any of the Souths lesser known names , would you also be up in arms ?

Arrow sign a 4 year 800k a year deal. Is he worth that much?

Would you rather we keep Frizell or let him go and tried to get Arrow?

Final thought is that, at this stage, the deal for Arrow is for 2021 onwards, not for 2020.

As far as Mitchell,he ain't coming here and never should we be entertaining the idea of signing him. He's a troubled young man, who is more likely to become a burden (hence the Roosters very freely letting him go) rather than a star.

Apparently Arrow is trying to get a immediate release. Got to feel for clubs like the Titans...constantly losing quality players or having to pay massive overs.while clubs at the Top end of the table retain or constantly attract quality....

Who are the NRL trying to kid ? The Cap/3rd Party is not working, in Terms of an even playing field across the board. They should have a look a the AFL Draft system.

The gold coast scenario has been tried many times and always fails.
There is no chance it will ever succeed and the Broncos like it that way.
Time for the Titans to disappear and a not Brisbane team to enter the fray.
Issue is are the NRL brave enough to do it?
