JARRYD HAYNE - He was completely outclassed by opposite number Billy Slater in a much-hyped battle of the fullbacks. Rating: 4.5.

BILLY SLATER - Magnificent under the high ball and razor sharp in attack showing amazing field coverage to defuse the kicking games of Mitchell Pearce and Trent Barrett. His speed saved at least two tries. Rating: 8.5.

They should have kept Gidley at fullback.. Altho had they done that.. i wouldnt have had the pleasure of seeing Hayne get belted.. :p

Good Lord, that article was a joke. Apparently getting thumped 34-6 and looking hopeless while doing so is worth a pass mark if you wear blue.

Not one NSW player turned in a decent game, yet most were rated at a six. If they were rated at a third of that, getting 1 point just for taking the field, it may be more accurate. As it stands, however...

I wouldn't pay too much attention to this article im not sure the writer knows what he's on about to be honest. Hindmarsh, Gallen, Gidley and Hayne all deserved better ratings, Gallen was one of your best (still a grub though:D)

Rubbish article - see the entry for Costigan? "Neville" And they call that journalism?

The Heralds gave Hayne and Hindy both 7 - far more objective

Agree with you on Hindmarsh and Gallen- not Gidley and Hayne- they were garbage

For QLD- they rated Scott above Shillington? Shillington was the best prop of the night

Why do Storm supporters hate JH with such a strong passion?

Slater was very very good, no question but it's not easy to play well as a fullback behind a team getting slaughtered everywhere else on the park.

Meltiger, im glad someone on this forum has brains!

I also believe the reason they hate him so much is because they're just jealous! They need to pay Slater $1 million to stand behind the Melbourne pack and look good, whereas we pay $500k for Hayne and look at the hard work he puts in for us and what an impact he has on every game he plays!!

slater would own hayne, regardless of the forward pack in front of him

Actually (though I am not a Storm fan) I like Hayne as a person a lot more than Slater (though, of course, I have never meet either of them). But, let's be honest- Hayne's form thus far in 2010 has been a long way where he left off in 2009. Slater's hasn't. Slater is the #1 fullback in the game. I am not even sure Hayne is the #1 fullback in NSW. I think, on form, NSW would be better served with Dugan, or even Coote in game 3

I agree with the first part you wrote :)

I think Hayne needs to be given more time in the FB role for NSW. Once the team comes good you'll see what he's capable of. I really dont think putting in Dugan/Coote would solve the problem because at the end of the day our problem lies in the forward pack.

I did say Slater was very good! Don't know if he ended up getting it but I had him near MOM at halftime.

Wasn't knocking Slater at all, just noting that Storm supporters seem to have a special disdain for him - The OP specifically picked out the NSW fullback for a sledge/comparison to a Storm player when virtually the entire team was wildly outplayed.

I tend to agree btw, i'd have JH on the wing and JD at FB for game 3

Hayne just needs to rort the cap, stud a prone player in the face and then hide, punch held players and try and hit a player from behind (and miss) and simostorm will love him.

I love the way Slater passes the ball to his winger as soon as he sees a defensive line coming at him.

hayne had his hands on the ball a lot, but seemed to run when he should have passed and vice versa
