Do these guys ever consider that the reason they get overlooked for rep honour is not because they're aboriginal but because they will parlay their selection into some totally unrelated agenda they'll pour down everyone's throat.

He'll most likely get shown up pretty hard at this level so hopefully we only have to endure this crap for one game.
How have they poured it down everyone’s throat?
Walker was asked a question and answered it.
Addo-Carr and Chambers were then asked the same question and answered accordingly.
The rest of it is on the media.

I don't care if they have poured it down peoples throats anyway, which they haven't. For too long the indigenous community has had no voice, they should take every opportunity possible to push for the benefit of their community!

Exactly. Clickbaity bullshit media like Sunrise and Today Show who put clips about it online then ask "What do you think ?" As though it's not their intention to whip the masses into a frenzy.

Personally I have no affinity with the flag or the anthem, they're both relics of colonialism.

The flag is the UK's with the southern cross chucked on it and the anthem is f**king awful as far as inspiring melodies go.

It's a shame New Zealand botched their referendum on a flag change with shithouse options.

Seinfield once described our flag as “England at night”

We all know the history of Australia & the white Australia policy up to the mid 1960s, but let's build a f**king bridge & get over it.

As suggested we f**k off the pommy flag in the corner of the flag, get a spine tingling anthem & if they so desire change the public holiday but the aboriginals must accept that's it - no more bloody victim mentality; it is bloody well over.

But it seems, their supporters go silent when this is suggested.

Well part of the bridge building is holding a conversation of what’s happened in the past and continues to happen that this very subtle protest has triggered. That conversation will bring up the over representation of indigenous folk in prison or deaths in custody or high suicide rates or that their heritage is likely to get them overlooked on a job application, stolen lands etc.

They could have said "no comment" or "Mind your own business".

I'm all for changing the flag, but then I never went to war and fought under it.
I find this comment interesting as yes they went to war and fought under our flag, but more so they went to fight to protect our rights and way of life, which includes having these types of discussions. They also fought under a flag that contained the Union Jack for the country that at times during those wars thought of the Australian soldiers as expendable commodities.

A lot of people didn’t, though. In WWI, our troops fought under the Union Jack. Australia until Menzies, had two flags. A red and a blue ensign. Most soldiers fought under the red ensign in WWII.

Yep. They have had an anthem that doesn't represent them and be told to sing it and be grateful for their whole lives or close to it. Suddenly it is in the news for a week or so and apparently it is them ramming it down other's throats??

Yep one of the silliest arguments about the flag. Certainly in WW1 and to a degree in WW2, particularly before Pearl Harbour, the diggers thought of themselves as predominately “British” rather than Australian. In WW2 the red flag was used far more often, this didn’t stop Menzies from making the blue flag the national flag.

Those who use this argument mainy concentrate on WW2 but the youngest digger from that war is now 92, the number of people who can make this claim is very small indeed

So I guess we as a nation forget the life expectancy gap, different educations levels and living standards because the indigenous peoples of this country are just playing the victim card. You are racist and need to be called out on your disgusting behaviour!

Champ, I not a racist but blaming everything on colonisation is bloody stupid - living in the past, and the present as a victim..

There are many reasons for the life expectancy gap, different educations levels and living standards; some are lifestyle issues, biologicial issues (kidney disease, etc), some are location issues, some are self-inflicted.

I'm all for given a hand up, but when a 12 child goes on a crime rampage in the NT, or an Uncle is screwing their 7 year old neice in Alice; I don't want the excuse "but, we are the victim of invasion & colonisation".

But to move forward, we need to accept history - if there is a push for a new flag, anthem & public holiday, I all for it as long as everyone agrees the bridge has been built, we have all crossed it; now to move forward together.
