They need a year where a less fancied team has a run IMO … I appreciate that this shouldnt be expected to happen regularly…although three years in a row 09,10,11 there were three teams 6th or lower that made the final…( they all lost though) …

This year and last season has been predictable throughout all the finals games and there were a number of one sided games … both prelims last year were very one sided for the favourites so I’m hoping we don’t see the same this year …of course the GF was a classic

The reason that the McIntyre system got scrapped was because it advantaged the bottom 4 teams too much.

We got it in 2013, 2014 as well. Kinda adds to that narrative.

It is a hard one. You need to reward consistency across the season but then you get the boring claims

Correct me if I am wrong but wherever there is a salary cap you also have a draft. Otherwise you continuously get the top teams saying players are happy to get less for the chance to play semis and win a comp. If your top say 10 players take 100k to 200k lower to play for a top team, knowing they will recover it and more due to 'connections' the club has, that gives the club 1 to 2 million extra in their cap while a lower team has to pay say 100k per player more for inferior players. So while all teams are theoretically on the same salary cap, in reality I would say there is in some cases 2 to 3 million disparity in squad costs. Just look at the top 3 or 4 teams and their squads and the bottom 2 or 3 teams, yet both are supposedly spending roughly the same.

Look at AFL
Sydney Swans. Relocated South Melbourne blood's. Or Red's
And Brisbane Lions
Fitzroy Lions relocation. Merger with Brisbane Bear's
Grand Final
So relocated teams
Merger teams. Do work
Could see Western Grizzlies Bear's
And Brisbane Jets
Play in grand final in the future 😎

Roosters will sign elite players on a minimum deal they will be fine.

Dogs haven't done their yearly cull yet. The roster will be no better

even if you count Dogs in. That is 6 teams that can win the comp.

Very few comps in world can 1/3 of the comp have a shot to win the comp.

Everyone should be aiming for finals realistically too, no other comp has that either
Tigers have rebuilt
Top 4 in 2025 now 🤔

If every team did what Penrith did... there'd still be a wooden spooner, a top 8 and a premier... granted all would be on equal wins, with position determined by F/A. All we'd argue about as fans would be why we didn't take that field goal that would have been the difference between a spoon and top 4 finish.
The whole comp would be on a higher level

And teams wouldn’t be able to dominate so much

Going with investing in juniors is having a competent ceo coach and board

Afl only has a draft for junior players not established players

And it only works in afl because it’s the afl who fund most of the juniors unlike league where it’s the clubs

I am sure they have a draft for mature age and uncontracted players as well so you can't just run your contract down and go to any team. I think your existing club can match the offer of another club. The AFL has several rules about player movement, but stand to be corrected if I am wrong.

We were shit for the better part of 50 years. The dominance has been 5 seasons. No reason any other team cant do it with the right amount of effort.

Catering to the lowest common denominator is stupid. Git gud.

85 ish to 91 was a very strong era

Take out Ben Alexander’s death and who knows how much longer it could’ve lasted

Im not too concerned about it … your traditionally shitty club won’t continue to dominate whilst elite players walk out the door every year …can’t defy the laws of physics forever ..
I agree we won’t continue to dominate and no club should have that right.

I don’t think the draft is the right way. The Dogs have responded to what we have done are are lifting their game across the organisation (Gould common denominator) and I can see them having a good few years.

That Oarra and the Tigers are going the other way is criminal…

89 to 91. 85 to 88 was was awesome from where we had been prior, but hardly dominant or a realistic shot.

Hard to say 92 and beyond, obviously Ben's death shook the club, and we didn't recover really for a generation (player wise) 03 and 04 looked like another dynasty shot, but we fell away as quickly as we rose.

This run started with Gus sorting out the set up from top to bottom, slow burn but we got there. No reason other clubs can't duplicate it at least to an extent. Not all our "juniors" were born in the Penrith Council area. Other clubs had an equal shot at guys like Edwards, Martin, Yeo and plenty of others. Plenty of clubs also have decent junior comps left to wither on the vine.

Seeing Preston Campbell and John lang winning a comp there after sharks punted them was a beautiful thing

The thing is, I don't mind seeing Roosters, Storm or Penrith dominate, because they are raising the bar. It is up to the other 14 teams to improve themselves and catch up.
Hence why I stated.....
....survival of the fittest,
we are not dictated as a sport by Evening up the also rans, that's blatant manipulation, drafts do that especially when your are a sport like AFL where there is only so much talent in only certain areas, but none elsewhere or internationally, a country like ours couldn't sustain a game like NFL, due to our small population, but united States can since they are well over 100 times larger, AFL is running on fumes to stretch its talent over the 18 teams, NRL does not have this issue, we have less players per club nessesary, and can source from Nz, Pacific, and UK/Europe to fill squads, so expansion isn't an issue, NFL wouldn't be able to do this if it were run in this country, so a draft suits them, a draft suits AFL, this means the sport is flawed as the clubs themselves are gifted highly talented and targeted juniors to even out the playing field.... doesn't mean they crawl out of the hole they've dug if they are spooners or also rans, but its still manipulation...
If you were to watch a running race say a 100 metre sprint between each club, do you gift the wests tigers a 5 metre head start, just to keep it even or a challenge, or do keep the integrity and let them earn the win thru the full 100 metres...
You're all sick of the storm, rosters, panthers winning, blame your own clubs, for not keeping up, or for taking short cuts, or throwing money at overpriced mercy, via bad player managers

The ‘21 Panthers Storm prelim was the most important event in rugby league history. A day when believers were born and walls were broken down. A day when we were saved from the Roosters/Storm terrorist cabal. A wankfest over Bellamy vs Wayne, dodged.

May the saviours of our great game, the Panthers, continue winning premierships and eventually get home crowd averages of over 100k. Amen.
....And praise be to YEOweh

Derr.... so what you're saying is, maybe become or support a club that can run a whole club well, not just support the badly run teams, all success can be cyclical, but it take effort to stay relevant.
Cowboys, Canberra, Penrith, Souths, Parra, Bronx,
Which "GF runners up club" on that list, didn't shit the bed the following year? Answer the one that learnt their mistakes and went about becoming a dominant club
