Sir Bob nominated for top post

INCUMBENT chairman of the PNG Rugby League Board Sir Bob Sinclair is the only nominee for the post as affiliates prepare for the annual general meeting schedule for Nov 26 in Lae.
PNGRFL chief executive officer Jeff Wade confirmed Sir Bob as the only nominee for the league top post and maybe elected unopposed.
Wade said election of new office bearers would top the agenda.
Other agenda items were presentation of the chairman’s report, SP Cup report, treasurer’s report and all affiliated leagues’ reports.
The AGM is also likely to deliberate on an international tour.
PNGRFL have accepted an invitation for PNG Kumuls to tour France next year and also prepare for the World Cup in Australia in 2008.
The first part of the World Cup preparation had been done by PNGRFL by appointing former Kumul captain Adrian Lam as national coach.
Lam takes over from Bob Bennett, who is still member of the coaching panel and special advisor to PNGRFL.
Lam got his first baptism of fire as national coach when his Prime Minister Xlll side lost to Australia Prime Ministers Xlll at Lloyd Robson Oval in Port Moresby.
In other rugby league related story, Wade said PNGRFL had maintained the same number of teams for next year’s SP Cup competition.
He made this comment after confirming Coca-Cola will still back Goroka Lahanis next year.
The Lahanis finished second after losing to Mabey and Johnson Muruks in the SP Cup grand final.
Coca-Cola Amatil marketing service manager Louise Maher also confirmed that the company remain the major sponsors of the Eastern Highlands representative team. The other teams are Toyota Mioks, Chemica Cowboys, Pagini Warriors, LBC Bombers, Agmark Guria, Wari Vele Raiders and Brian Bell Bulldogs.

I always love hearing League news from PNG cos its positive 99.9% of the time.
Any country that has Rugby league as its national sport is alright with me. I hope they get all there stars back for the work cup and make a good go of it

PNG really needs to start playing some internationals - they have enough players in the ESL, QLD cup etc to make a decent team, but I can't remember the last time they played an international with all their decent players.

Is that a sad fact about international rugby league?

it reflects both on international rugby league and PNG administration, which has been a bit of a basket case in recent years. Countries like Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands manage to organise matches, but not PNG

Good news. They need to work hard with elite juniors if they want to get more players into NRL teams, and hence improve their standards.
