How do I know this? I don't, we are just having a discussion. But by the same token, you don't know Vlandys motives either.

I can't recall him ever expressing an interest in politics. I do however recall him saying many times that RL helped him fit in as an immigrant kid in Wollongong and he's grateful to the game for that and wants to repay the debt. I've also heard him talk about not walking away until RL is the number 1 sport in Australia.

He doesn't really strike me through his words and actions (some misteps aside because everyone makes mistakes) that he's going to f**k RL and then just walk away.
Hope youre right but never, ever underestimate self interest.

Lol it is HQ is in cairns
Yeah and I think that's the right call. No NRL player would move their family to Port Moresby to live if they could earn a good living in any other NRL city in Australia or NZ.

I would imagine even Papuans would jump at the chance to leave if offered a chance with an Aus club or the Wahs.

One caveat is that I wouldn't play any premiership matches in Cairns. Training base and a place to live for players and families only. This has to be a PNG team so all games have to be in PNG. Cairns base is there just to address the living and social conditions issue.

For $60m/year they must be building them a new 50k stadium as well.

Sounds like a popular idea. 10% of our aid budget to a 3rd world nation going to a professional sporting team and a new stadium. I doubt he'd even have the votes in his own party, let alone the crossbench support he'd need to pass that.

Yeh I was only joking. All of a sudden it’s 3 times the $20m previously rumoured, either some pockets are being lined or a journo is pulling numbers out of his ass.

Might buy some nice new yachts in Port Moresby harbour, in the name of keeping China at bay of course.

$600m Govt money ($60m annually for 10 years)
Wayne Bennett coach
Brisbane Tigers says they are “open” to partnership ( although this seems subject to “sharing “games between PNG/ Suncorp … right… stupid )

no way does the Govt spend so much money on this …
Getting bennett is something I’ve said should happen especially since it will be qld based

Aligning with easts makes them rich but easts should wait for the next brisbane license

600 millon sounds like bs unless it’s over 25 years

Even the proposed upgrade to 25k isn’t going to cut it

and the ground needs much better security measures

What proposed upgrade is that?

Security is going to be a major concern … not just at the ground …. For players and Aussie tourists going over there to watch games

Playing games In cairns (or Townsville) or Brisbane will help get qld sponsorship dollars

To 25k but it never happened

which is too small

read the ground is actually owned by oil search

fhe scenes after the pm13 game obviously won’t work for nrl games

So why mention a 2019 story about something that isn’t going to happen?

Pointless

i have seen nothing to suggest a stadium upgrade to increase capacity …
It’s only logical it’s too small for an nrl side and nrl players won’t play there in its current form

the png govt in the past has made promises of building an athletes village if they got an nrl team
