I just answered your question. There is a pro league where a third world country competes with first world countries. And it seems to be working out pretty well for FijiHow is that travelling for Union?
You do understand the logistical aspects or difficulties having a very poor area like PNG trying to compete against clubs from much wealthier areas creates?
Yeah but we are all just assuming it's going to fail or be underfunded etc without seeing the details of the plan. This is why I’m saying that it is a bad idea. You should not be blasé about the support that PNG has for the game and automatically assume that it will always be there if it fails. This is a massive risk.
For instance, If you give them a team and you pull it at the first instance of trouble then two things could conceivably occur.
Firstly, you’re giving other sports a free kick right there. RU would love us to have a go and fail. Secondly, having sport linked so inextricably with politics is a massive negative in my opinion. It essentially has to work otherwise if it fails, you are potentially damaging relationships for a very long time.

how do you know this? it is possible than Vlandy's doesn't really care that much about rugba league and just wants to advance his political career. He will probably have left the NRL by the time PNG folds, won't have to answer to anything.Yeah but we are all just assuming it's going to fail or be underfunded etc without seeing the details of the plan.
Again, the Govt would have to make a mighty sweet deal, guarantees or upfront payments for the NRL to go for it or it just won't happen in the forst place. Albo would know this and those discussions would be ongoing and may have already been negotiated. I guess we need to wait and see what the final deal is.
I can't see either the NRL or Albo wanting this to fall over after the next election so there'd have to be more to it.

Yes there is that’s a load of bsI think it is incredibly dumb to trust politicians or politics, that’s all. It’s just way too unstable. If they can’t give a massive one off payment then they shouldn’t do it.
Also, there are some people on here who obviously have never been to a third world country otherwise they would not be peddling this idea that it is a simple thing to achieve. What we’re suggesting here hasn’t been tried by any sport in any competition.
There is no multinational competition anywhere in the world where you have cities/areas with such different economic and social conditions competing in the same competition. There is a reason why that is.
Ten years ago maybeI’d much rather their money/revenue. Let’s be honest.
It is equivalent to a person working harder or more efficiently than another person and earning a whole lot less.
But not so cautious about afl leadership huhI’m not assuming it is going to fail or succeed because nothing in this life is guaranteed; nevertheless I’d want more security then just the government saying we’ll back it. That makes it very hard for it to succeed due to the inherent instability of politics.
I’m also a big more cautious about RL leadership than you seemingly are. As a sport we have a history littered with very poor decisions, PVL included in that.
You’ve changed your tune lolA meteor could hit the earth tomorrow if you wanna make stuff up
25 million minus 15 million equals 10 millon profit
the govt is paying us to expand our pathways in png to elite level
we will benefit from future player production. Without spending a cent
Tv audience, active fanbase not even close. Most popular sport in Australia. We've got a bigger audience.
You’d think so, then you look at how he got played with the tv deal and nsw govt stadiums deal, or no deal.PVL might be a wanker but getting to and surviving at the top of NSW Racing tells me that he isn’t naive …
I would be extremely surprised if he agrees to the PNG NRL team without Govt contractual obligations to pay the $20-25m per year for minimum 10 years, which would be subject to penalty provisions if they try to turn off the tap early…
I mean .., it’s the Governments idea right …so the NRL has some leverage here ..
He isn’t going to be caught out by something like Bill Shorten knifing Albo prior to the next election and having that Victorian asking questions about why the Aust Govt funding that “meathead sport”….?
What happens after 10 years though …. Im not so sure … could fall over quick when the money stops…
Look … personally I’d rather them expand to about 4 other places … but I suspect that the recent news about PNG and PVL’s invitation to the White House was the quid pro quo for agreeing to Albo’s request for the team in PNG…
Fair call. I'm not 100% convinced about PNG. However if we do go for it, I want to see a good deal for the game out of it. Both here and in PNG. I agree that a politician's word of funding into the future alone is not enoughI’m not assuming it is going to fail or succeed because nothing in this life is guaranteed; nevertheless I’d want more security then just the government saying we’ll back it. That makes it very hard for it to succeed due to the inherent instability of politics.

Total audience is in the NRL's favour and it's not even closeTv audience, active fanbase not even close.
