The only reason people could have to hold serious reservations about starting a professional sports team in one of the poorest countries in the world is because they are "salty".

What a well thought out and detailed rebuttal.
Yes, especially when it comes to your posts

" It's important to note that Albanese has not yet provided commitment, a specific financial commitment or an indication of an allocation in the Federal Budget"

So government.. that are renowned for not delivering on " promises " haven’t even so much as made a promise...
Got it.
I think what we're seeing is news outlets using speculation for clicks.

This is far far far from done.

Of course he hasn't. He's not a dictator, so he can't provide any funding without support, not just from his party, but the crossbench as well. There is roughly 0% chance that the greens or teals would ever support it, and it's an easy wedge issue for Dutton to get votes.

If it's just an allocation in the budget, good luck protecting it when the LNP remove the allocation from their first budget.

Well said. It hasn't even been floated publicly properly to gauge public support . This is barely testing the water stuff.

This dumb merkin has me on ignore. Can someone point out to him that it needs to pass the Senate, in which Labor only holds 34% of the seats.

So you think albanese has never been there or vlandys ?

I've got a strong feeling the leader of a G20 country doesn't see the same PNG that your average tourist does.

I've been all over Central/South America, South-East Asia, Central Asia, Eastern Europe, a few Pacific Island countries and PNG is by far the poorest place I've ever seen. It's legitimately shocking.

Liberals are never winning back the teal seats with Dutton style policies. Just look at how those seats voted for the Voice. So Liberals can only win nationally by flipping the outer and Western suburbs from Labor. And they're still seen as being too big business in a lot of those places. So they'll push a race or fear based agenda - winning some western seats but losing more inner city seats in the process. I think the Libs will only win a majority if Labor totally blows it. And that's not out of the realm of possibilities. That said I am glad to be back here. American politics is a nightmare. Any merkin here who tries to drag us down that path needs to be hung and quartered.

As for PNG I think we can take it for a given that the US state department asked our government how can we shore up PNG's support against China and this is what Labor came back with. And obviously it worked because it has full backing of the PNG government. I have no doubt you'll see a US foreign aid boost to PNG.
