If you guys want to walk around with your heads up your arse, then go for it.

Cairns is going to need tens of millions just to fix up the damage from the recent floods.

They need roads and bridges, not Rugba League stadiums for another country to train at.

Sydneysiders, got no idea about jack shit

This would be great for Cairns. A PNG team playing 6 games out of it each year would make it worth the money. It makes more sense than knocking down the Gabba and rebuilding it for $2.7m. The IOC said the Gabba is fine as it is.

Despite what Andrew hill says now a cairns based side playing 3 games a year will help their finances with the qld business community and gates from a revamped Barlow park

if would also kill off talk of a cairns based fumble side

The PNG bid has made it clear that they aren't interested in an Australian partner.

They believe Albo's and governmental support makes it a fait accompli, are seeing dollar signs, and are going to try and take them for everything they have. They might agree to the team's training base being temporarily based in Cairns, but they won't willingly split games with them and have already said that they intend for the team to be permanently based in PNG as quickly as possible.

It's almost like convincing people they're going to get everything they want undermines your position to negotiate...

So now we've got the federal govt spending hundreds of millions of dollars for a stadium in Cairns for maybe a few games, and hundreds of millions of dollars for a team in PNG, and presumably hundreds of millions of dollars to upgrade the Port Moresby stadium since PNG can't afford it.

And some of you morons support this bid that needs a billion in funding and still might not even be viable?

Councils don't have the political or financial clout to make this happen.

Given the LGA elections are in March 2024, I'd also assume that this isn't a big local issue either.

The previous Mayor who was spruiking it, resigned in November.
