Don’t be so smug - an AFL team in Newcastle may work. After all, you only need half of one percent of the population to be interested and you would have a crowd of 2500, which would be standing room only at No. 1 Sports Ground.
(although someone did say a new stadium would be required)

I told them to relocate the Lions, Swans, Giants and Suns to Melbourne and add Nauru as the 20th team since it's the only country that has fumbleball as its national sport.

Noted -that some are responding to you seriously says something about the intelligence of Bigfooty posters.

I have relented and gone back there. Currently leading a discussion on whether Newcastle or Canberra should be next - probably time for a Kiwi to bring up the sport’s popularity in Auckland.

I’ve got their juices flowing by mentioning the claimed 30000 registered AFL players in NZ.

Question is to when to let the other boot drop - as there are only a maximum of 16 verifiable teams, this means there are 1,875 players per team. Lot of people on the bench, lot of oranges at quarter time.

That’s why png bid boss Andrew hill was in cairns to talk to the council about a tie up

maybe read the article first
I did read it.

I've also read as much of the bid's other talk in the media as possible, kept an eye on their discussions on social media, spoken to people with direct knowledge of Norths interactions with them, and heard Richo talk about Easts discussions with them which reaffirmed the talk that was coming out of the Bears.

The PNG bid has repeatedly made it abundantly clear both publicly and privately that ideally they'd like to be based in and play out of PNG fulltime from day one or as quickly as possible if that isn't achievable, and that they aren't interested in a merger or partnership with another club.

If their arm was twisted they'd agree to being based in Cairns or another Australian city so long as their was a concrete plan for them to relocate to PNG fulltime, but they'd be very resistant to splitting games with anyone going from what I've heard.
