I did read it.

I've also read as much of the bid's other talk in the media as possible, kept an eye on their discussions on social media, spoken to people with direct knowledge of Norths interactions with them, and heard Richo talk about Easts discussions with them which reaffirmed the talk that was coming out of the Bears.

The PNG bid has repeatedly made it abundantly clear both publicly and privately that ideally they'd like to be based in and play out of PNG fulltime from day one or as quickly as possible if that isn't achievable, and that they aren't interested in a merger or partnership with another club.

If their arm was twisted they'd agree to being based in Cairns or another Australian city so long as their was a concrete plan for them to relocate to PNG fulltime, but they'd be very resistant to splitting games with anyone going from what I've heard.
This is whats been said for a while now, and if the arlc are accepting of it, it will surely be based out of cairns for the first 2-5 seasons, if only to garner coaches, players, staff to be operational, then the whole setup move back to port moresby after that, so thats their plan, which will definitely see most of the marquee recruitment drop off, when they do. but that wont matter as it will be up and running as they would want it already as the png club recruiting local talent and folks who are wanting to actually be on that team, not the pseudo pasifika that the arlc actually want. I dont see them moving back for a while they say they want it to be fulltime in port moresby, but they'll end up in cairns for a decade

So that's why they shouldn't be even considered.

f**k off with your selfish BS, you know damn well why you're upset with them being funded, it has nothing to do with poverty or handouts or better use of funds, its purely that this is setup or based in cowboy territory, 4 hours away. thats what shits you, just admit it, you're as bad as the 25 year cokblok bronx had on Brisbane.. thats the real reason

Do you seriously think that people in Cairns will suddenly switch to supporting a PNG team over there local side?

And yes I would be vehemently against splitting the tiny catchment of NQ into two (if that ever were to be proposed) because that would having two small regional cities with NRL teams would be totally unsustainable and make our comp a laughing stock.

There is some weird colonialism going on here with PNG, whereby you and others think we can just pillage there talent and pay them nothing purely for the enrichment of Australian teams.

But mostly I'm against it as a cynical political move that wastes all our money, and achieves nothing.

Hahahahahaha f**k me you're insecure, no one is asking for cairns people to suddenly support the png bid, the locals of cairns aren't looking to become the 18th team, the team might train and be housed there, but its as temporary as the warriors in redcliffe/central coast during covid, you are so predictable, as if you give two shits about the govt funding, i'd love to see your protests on the afl sites about the new Tasmanian ovals.

Better options is one thing, but are they adding to the pie, or taking away from it.... if perth came in now, yes they'd be taking away from the player pool, if Brisbane3 came in they wouldn't be adding to the pie, it would just be level, as the juniors already exists and are feeding someone currently. (e.g easts tigers feeding Storm, Ipswich feeding Knights etc)
Need png first, then they add to that pie, then you can go to perth, vic2, adelaide etc where there isn't any RL presence and grow it

Why would I create an account on an AFL site? Did you wake and bake?

I think the Tassie stadium is a colossal waste of money, especially for only a one tenant team that will play home games elsewhere. And I've repeatedly said that on this site. Turns out most of Tasmania agrees, as this project is causing all sorts of political fall out and may not even proceed.

Even then, at least this project is for Australians in Australia, the fall out for the PNG one is going to be far greater.

Lastly, the PNG model is dogshit, because:

- no one will want to play for a team that travels every week to play footy.

- It's a financial blackhole

- PNG needs clean water and healthcare, not making Brandon Smith wealthy.

- Becoming a cynical political plaything is a shit result

Who cares, it wont happen, I've said this for ages if the govt is going to underwrite a png team the arlc will had over a licence immediately, it in the best interests for both parties, even the clubs love the idea, coz it's basically a team that doesn't threaten their clubs financially or via poaching their best and brightest, and even quality wise theyll be lucky to crawl out out of the bottom 8 for a while, you bring in a Perth, Brisbane3, or Adelaide team now, and they steal your best juniors now, just like the dolphins did... png might have a couple of outside recruits, but not a whole team full, i suppose it depends whos the coach, but chances are they are promoting most of their locals after a few seasons

Five to more like ten years for good png juniors to be the base of the side

a whole generation of youth playing from under 16 in the Aussie comps graduating into the nrl squad

Its why the arlc are trying to mandate that all clubs develop, at the moment only a handful really do, most let the feeder clubs do it, and thet just pick the eyes of them
And why Penrith dominance is good for the game

png dogs etc trying to copy their pathways
