A very interesting point. $US600 million is a sneeze to China. If they really wanted to play soft diplomacy themselves they could belt and road the shit out of PNG to the tunes of billions of dollars.

Australia actually is the one nation here who is behind the 8 ball in this scenario. China doesn't need PNG to sign a Security deal their Pacific ambitions aren't contingent on PNG. PNG are happy to take Australia's money.

That's all well and good, and it's a very detailed and smart article, but its fanciful ideals don't help Australia, the ONLY reason WE give 2 shits about this issue with papuans next door needing help or this article is coz Papuans LOVE Rugby LEAGUE (the article glossed over that btw)


Would we care or speak up about the waste of 600million taxpayer moneys involved in PNG if it wasn't for this team, coz they've been getting these unpayable loans to that sum amount for years now, what's changed? Our perception hasn't, and China don't care either..
Simply put, politics is not for the goodhearted or the weak willed, you want allies you need to scratch backs HARD!!!! and even then you still can't trust them anyways, how could you they are a foreign country, they don't succumb to our laws our rules, this team should be holding the PNG public and politicians accountable for at least a decade
