PNG's back.

It's been tried since.

Like I said before, why aren't the Hunters producing NRL talent? It's not like they have struggled in the last decade, winning the QCup in 2017.
I remember a few Papuans playing under the Cowboys system a little over a decade ago. If my memory is correct they played for the Pride.

The Visa thing is complete bullshit made up by LU dumb arses

Quite a number of PNG nationals have played in the Cairns District RL since the 80s.

You can't tell me that park footy teams in Cairns can organise Visas but not the NRL.

It's a shit excuse and anyone using it should feel dumb

I could be wrong but I think most NRL Teams and coaches don't want to take the risk or have the patience to sign players from the Hunters and then put them through their systems again.

The patience the Melbourne Storm and Greg Bellamy showed Justin Olam is something I don't think exists at other clubs.

Justin got signed by the Storm starting in 2017 and only became a regular around mid 2019 and only played a full NRL season in 2020. Most other clubs would have moved him on after 1 season but the storm persisted with him.

So most ex Hunters players have therefore found it a lot more easier to move side-ways into other QCup Teams or go to the English Super League/ Championship or Championship 1.

Off the top of my head the ex Hunters players who had or went to other clubs are;
1. Edwin Ipape - Leigh Lepoards
2. Sylvester Namo - Townsville Blackhawks
3. Moses Meninga - Townsville Blackhawks
4. Willie Minoga - Townsville Blackhawks
5. Edene Gebbie - Wynnum-Manly Seagulls
6. Standford Talita- Wynnum-Manly Seagulls
7. Nixon Putt - Norths Devils/CQ Capras
8. Mekenzie Yei - CQ Capras/ Featherstone Rovers
9. Samuel Yegip - CQ Capras
10. Valentine Richard - CQ Capras
11. Bobby Tenza - CQ Capras
12. Dilbert Issac - Redcliff Dolphins
13. Kingstimer Paraia- South Logan Magpies
14. Ase Boas - Featherstone Rovers
15. Watson Boas - Featherstone Rovers/ Doncaster
16. Thompson Teteh - Featherstone Rovers
16. Jason Tali - Doncaster
17. Dion Aiye- Whitehaven
18. Wellington Albert - Widnes Vikings / London Broncos
19. Emmanuel Waine - London Broncos
20. Kevin Appo - Bradford Bulls
21. Gary Lo- Sheffield Eagles/ Castleford Tigers
22. Kato Otio - Raiders/Mounties
23. Nickson Borana - French Elite 1
24. Sailas Gahuna - French Elite 1

I guarantee that none of those players got into the country on working visas to play football professionally.

But sure, you’d know better than all the coaches and officials that have complained for years that getting visas for Papuan players is a massive hassle most of the time…

I'd love to see some evidence of this.

And I'd highly doubt that it's any easier getting a UK visa for Papuans.

In professional sports, teams aren't going to wait 4 to 6 years for any player to develop, no matter what nationality they are.

Its from 2009, so a while ago... but it does ring true, how can the NRL get these players more involved if they are all coming from a low income base to start with unable to secure visas to venture into reserve grade clubs let alone a first grade one

That article predates the Hunters existence by 5 years.

It's not an issue in 2023 for QCup level players getting NRL deals.

The minimum requirement is a job that pays 40k or more.

That's not an issue for those that have talent to make a top 30 squad, as minimum wage is higher then 40k

There is clearly an issue that's unrelated to Visas

They weren’t able to get into Australia because they needed to be on something like a minimum of $40,000 salary.

if an nrl club isnt willing to put them on $40k they aren’t valuing their potential much lol

I'd love to see some evidence of this.

And I'd highly doubt that it's any easier getting a UK visa for Papuans.
Evidence of what?

How hard it was for the average Papuan to get a working or permeant residency visa in Australia until literally earlier this year? Seriously?

PNG has been considered a high security risk for decades and it was very difficult for Papuans to meet the minimum standards to be allowed residency. Only changes made in the last few years in response to China's growing power in the region have changed that, particularly changes Albo's government finalised earlier this year to strengthen ties with PNG.

I'd rather not get bogged down discussing this stuff, because it's not what I'm here for frankly, and information on that kind of stuff is only a google search away, so feel free to look into it yourself.
