What’s the relevance of the AFL in this topic?NRL gets PNG from the Aust govt with $600m, AFL gets a Tassie team that doesn’t want to build a stadium
“In an exclusive interview, PNG’s Foreign Minister Justin Tkatchenko said the government in Port Moresby had also set aside 100 million kina ($38 million) in its budget next year to begin building facilities for the new team including a high-performance centre at the national stadium and a secure accommodation village. A further 300 million kina has been allocated for three following years.”
So the png govt is funding the secure accomodation.
What’s the relevance of the AFL in this topic?
Yes, very good. Well doneits bold, its a bit edgey ... but there is an awful lot of upside. It takes our game to places- PNG, Darwin, Cairns, The Pacific - the AFL can only dream. And while it's natural to have concerns, there are people death riding it without reading the bsuiness model. Its only News Limited that. have made this sort of brave new world expansion a bad thing. One old diseased ballbag's world-view, poisoning things that really arent political at all.

You do realise Port Moresby is only a 450k population right? That doesn't always fill thier 15k stadium for internationals.. ?Australian government sources have said the deal is linked to a security arrangement that would stop Beijing from gaining a significant police or military presence in PNG.
The ABC understands Beijing has been trying to clinch an agreement with PNG that would allow police or defence troops to be based in the country.”
Is PNG’s NRL deal linked to a security pact that will block China? It depends who you ask
PNG's entry into the NRL is expected to be announced in Sydney late next week, with Australia injecting $600 million to support the Port Moresby-based team.www.abc.net.au
Hopefully China promises them to build a new 80,000 seat stadium in Port Moresby.

They just announced funding for a centre of excellence and the players compound which are higher prioritiesAny news on a stadium upgrade? Surely 15k with hardly any corporate suites isnt going to cut it?
New money from the png govtI wonder if the $150mill png govt spend is additional money or where some of the allocation of the $600mill is going?
