Travel times for non Sydney clubs are basically the same as now

Can’t find the post but someone calculated it here
They'd work out better if they weren't in an all expansion conference, any travel time that Sydney gets none is already automatically skewed, add in nz2 and Png aswell as Perth, you're dreaming if you think the travel times will remain the same

If there’s no cross pool games Sydney clubs don’t get an advantage as they aren’t playing against clubs who travel a lot. The short travel times will cancel each other out

Until you get to the Super Bowl game where travel won’t mean a thing

That's still an advantage to Sydney clubs if a player not having to sign up to a rival club depending if they are in nz2 vs bulldogs for example, everyone should travel, no matter what, besides nswrl teams are a draw card for most expansion cities, look at dragons, souths in qld

Besides tell me how many rounds can you get from a 10 team conference without cross pool?
18 would be it, can't be playing them three times to make up 24 rounds

It might be a factor it won’t be a huge factor

Not everyone wants to live in Sydney or Brisbane and the wages offered might be better elsewhere

There’s no point doing conferences if it isn’t based on Sydney plus Newcastle v rest

Perth players are going to have a lot of travel I don’t think it will be a huge factor getting players there

Over time it will be a huge factor, and all Sydney conference will become elite, in comparison because of the lack of talent staying in the expansion conference... you seem to be ignorant in this fact

True

Backwards thinking, how long before the create a composite team representing Sydney, and this nswrl conference you want becomes 2nd tier (ala BRL)
Perth players are going to have a lot of travel I don’t think it will be a huge factor getting players there
So we make it harder, by adding in png and chch, which are both further away from Perth than any other team...
Don't make me bring out the calculator again WB

I said I don’t think this will happen because of opposition from the qrl and non Sydney clubs

But I still think it’s worth a try for the reasons I’ve stated

If the nswrl wasn’t so successful there would be no nrl. Must’ve been doing something right

That all has nothing to do with expansion OR conferences, you want something that only existed in a bubble 50+ years ago, you can't do that now, if you did, you'd create another superleague type situation all over again, where there's the "haves" and "have nots" it's taken 30 years to get over that garbage into one unified league, and now prospering, expanding, don't reverse it by wanting a nswrl

It wasn’t my idea it was what uncle Nick proposed

I think it could be a huge positive and the points raised against it exaggerated

A souths fan agrees with politis.... now I've seen it all, politis is all about self interest, of course he wants no expansion sides in his conference, he wants every marquee he can get, only have to look at the women's side ABSOLUTELY stacked..
That and no travel, makes Nick a happy boy...
It's not fair, don't pretend it is or will be better for it

Uncle Nick was the one who proposed a 20 team comp when everyone thought it would stop at 18

And when he leaves the roosters they will have one billion in property assets

I wish souths were run as professionally as the chooks

Blake solly is a fkwit

Starting to think I may have to go back to the dragons lol

Ok, they this one on. 4 groups of 5. Each group has 3-4 clusters around a core and only 2 “outsider teams”

Brisbane-Centric (obvious)
1. Brisbane Broncos
2. Gold Coast Titans
3. Dolphins
+
4. North Queensland Cowboys
5. PNG (Papua New Guinea)

South Sydney (next to airport, so NZ is easier)
1. South Sydney Rabbitohs
2. Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks
3. St. George Illawarra Dragons
+
4. New Zealand Warriors
5. NZ2 (Second New Zealand team)

West Sydney-Centric (no flights, but it makes too much sence not to…)
1. Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs
2. Penrith Panthers
3. Parramatta Eels
4. Wests Tigers
+
5. Canberra Raiders

North Sydney-Centric

1. Manly Warringah Sea Eagles
2. Sydney Roosters
3. Newcastle Knights
+
4. Melbourne Storm
5. Perth Bears

North sydney is the one thats a bit forced; melbourne doesn’t obviously fit anywhere and Bears with Manly, Newcastle and Easts is too good

Wondering if anyone can point out a single benefit to non-Sydney clubs?
Can be tough enough recruiting players in regional teams. Let’s Say Perth and Tigers are both in negotiations for a player- both have the same cap to spend, Tigers can offer playing a game and then being home that night nearly every week whilst the likes of Perth you generally loose a recovery day traveling more than every second week- 9/10 you’re going to pay overs if you’re the out of town club- and people want to increase this advantage?
Warriors and NZ2 have the added burden of extra times with international procedures such as customs etc, plus having to connect to the regional Aus centres. NZ2 will have it even worse with Perth and Port Moresby will likely had to add another couple of hours via Auckland.
Sure some of these are unavoidable with non Sydney teams but why shift things more in favour for some teams?
OK. Let's say that you're a back row on 400k.. what does that get you in Balmain?
400k less Australian tax will be maybe 220k..
Maybe a 1 bedroom flat after a 5 year contract?
Vs 400k in Christchurch..after NZ tax will be maybe 250k? And you'd own you 1 bedroom flat in the first year.. but why flat? You'd be buying a 3 bedroom house with a yard for the kids to play.. or probably take them an hour to go snowboarding instead?
If Christchurch is a little boring for them, they'll have an all expenses paid trip to Australia once a fortnight.

Yeah tough sell lol.

How would that format play out ? Play home and away in your conference then rest once

I don’t follow nba or nbl but it looks like that

You captured all the important derbies too didn’t miss one lol

Play everyone in the conference home and away (8 rounds) and then play everyone else in a mix of home and away (15 rounds) would make it 23 rounds which is not bad.

Then you could take the top two from each conference into a top 8 finals system.
