river comes a 10 of clubs 89 had a straight flush

AK, bet hard because of the straight, so he bet, 8 9, pushed all in

River card was a King of Clubs

I still had chips left though and got back into the game. I waited until I had K-Q and pushed in again. One person calls with A-4. Now. I'd rather have K-Q anyday but of course she hits an A on the fop and a 4 on the turn.

While postflop I would certainly take KQ (if an ace flops with A4 you really have to play scared because you might be outkicked) in an all-in preflop situation I'll take A4 over KQ any day of the week:

I just had a very profitable beat tonight. Was playing Texas Holdem on pokerstars on a table with $1/$2 blinds. Pre-flop i had AA and raised $8 which is generally enough to get all but 1 or 2 players to fold which is what i wanted.

Anyway the flop went K2Q

So i raised another $10 and one called.

The turn was another Q which scared me alittle and we both checked. Now at this stage little did i know that he was slow playing a full house, Ks full of Qs. Anyway he shouldnt have checked as a big raise may have scared me off the pot because of the potential trip-Qs.

So the river came and yep, i hit the A. The guy raised, i re-raised and then he went all-in which i called. Poor bugger had what he must have thought was an unbeatable hand but lost to Aces full of Qs. Won about $200 which wasnt bad for a few minutes work.

I saw a great one two weeks ago at my local tournois:
One guy had A-A and obviously bet big. Next guy had K-2, and even though I had 10-J-suited, I thought I would stay well out of this pot.
Flop goes K-K-K, landing a full house and a four of a kind. Needless to say, the guy with the Aces was eliminated after being close to chip leader. Not happy at all.

yep i do agree skeletor that no doubt its great to play against inexperienced players because, as you illustrated, if you have a great hand you may get players trying to take you on and then lose.

but hevy also raises a valid point about playing inexperienced players who dont know when to fold and get lucky. and then theres the old "you cant bluff bad players" line...

nowhere did i say you will win more money out of better players, but in all honestly i do prefer to play against players around about my level or better...
I usually eat up really inexperienced players by running my mouth a little.
If they're concentrating on what you're saying, they're not concentrating on what hand the opponents or themselves have.

Yeah but I hate weak aces and will usually avoid playing them unless it's heads up or I'm sitting in late position with no raises before me. KQ is a strong hand, A-4 isn't

An ace without a picture is not worth it IMO. You're counting on 3 outs and someone may have one of your outs and better kicker. Basically praying for a miracle flop which may win you a hand or two.

again Mal, I'm talking the difference between an ordinary hand and an all-in pre-flop situation.

In an ordinary hand where you have to play post-flop, turn and river there is no way I'd want A-4, because if the A flops you are worried about him having A-10 or A-9 or something with a better kicker.

In an all-in pre-flop heads-up situation, all that matters is the pure maths of it, so A-4 > K-Q in that situation.

Got a royal flush today, playing online! (not for real money unfortunately..am a newbie).
First one I have actually seen! The pot got a lot higher before that hand was completed by the way.

Just got back from the APL state champs at Club Marconi.
Didn't go too badly but just couldn't get cards when needed.....
Oh well, i'm going to the casino this Friday. A repeat of last visit ($500 win) would be great!

They've been showing the US Poker Championships which has been good to watch.

The WSOP main event should be starting again soon actually.

Tough to pick a winner but maybe one of Phil Ivey or Allan Cunningham would be a strong chance.

I played the Final there as well, i got a bad beat which seen my departure from the poker pit

about 60 left, in the final

got As Jd off-suit, i only could just match the big blind, i was big blind the next hand, and then small would of seen me forced all in anyway.

so i move all in, everyone but the possible chip leader called(he had the majority of the table in chips), he had Qh Js

Flop Comes;

Ah 3d Jh

Turn

10h

River

5h

he caught runner, runner flush over my two pair on the river.

but i had fun anyway, there is always next year, providing i do well in the regular season

Sounds like a beat I copped abt a month ago.

Went in with A-Q in similar scenario, called by big blind with K-7.

Flop was A-10-3 ... then K ... then K.

I didn't take that one too well
