Despite my baiting in the other thread I'd put Mortimer in for a run.. whilst I'm not 100% sure he'd be the right player to throw in against the Dragons, I think he has the potential but I don't want him going the same way that Tim Smith went i.e: Thrown in long before he was ready (even though his first year was a blinder on the back of a solid team performance)

I think Parra needs to look outside and try to get someone like Monaghan from England.. As much as I like Matthew Head he is a tampon.. in for 1 out for 3...

people dont get released from contracts overnight, Anderson probably told finch he was not going to be our halfback next year and to find a new contract or play in wenty for 2010-'11. Finch move would have been on the cards for a few weeks IMO and this is a way of been able to bring in a youngster like Mortimore with little media hype.

Also remember Anderson came out in the media proclaiming that Mortimore could play in the NRL. While we let Mahoney go, Mortimore has been playing well behind a beaten pace for a few weeks. He is similar stature to Snowden and will handle it IMO, he will play this week IMO

Without getting carried away....

Who's the logical long term replacement for Finch?

Will DA try to blood KK / DM and invest in a prop (Poore) or........ Go for Head/Fien/Smith

How much was Finch on?

I reckon Mortimer is worth a shot, but he needs someone like Mateo as 5/8 so not all of the pressure is on him.

Sandow and Wade Graham are going fine, so I don't see any reason to hold off.

I don't think Kris Keating has a good enough kicking game to be our halfback long term.

1. Hayne
2. Burt (Reddy if not injured)
3. Inu
4. Smith
5. Grothe
6. Mateo
7. Mortimer
8. Cayless
9. M Keating
10. Moi Moi
11. Hindmarsh
12. Lowrie
13. Wright

14. K Keating
15. Galuvao
16. Mannah
17. [Dang, we need Paulo back]

Sandow and Graham are doing fine. The big difference is both have had prolonged exposure to higher grades - Sandow at the Titans and Graham through the Penrith lower grades - sure they were brought up from their respective NYC sides last year but both have played either in Qld Cup (Sandow) or Premier League (Graham) at different stages.

Mortimer was playing SG Ball last season and then some NYC. He hasn't had a full season of long term football.

Honestly, just throwing the kid into first grade because he looks the deal in NYC (who haven't, by the way, been that impressive either) is going to be detrimental to his long term development.

I'm a huge fan of the kid but we've f**ked the careers of so many young halfbacks over the years by introducing them before we should have it isn't funny.....

KK played 7 against the Roosters at campbelltown, and that was when we actually looked sharp on the field, Matt Keating played 80 mins at hooker.

I think we have to look at that option first, I think we may well see more releases considered as the new coach balances the cap against needs and requirements.

I agree Delboy. KK 7 Hayne 6 first option.

Second option is Mortimer 7, mateo 6, Hayne 1, Burt 14.

I really dont care who they put there just as long as we see some different attacking options. This year defence hasnt been our main problem, it is our attack that is the problem, if our forwards get a move on and we have someone with some attacking flare, we have the backs to finish the job.

Funny How Hodkinson, Maloney left to try and get a gig elsewhere because we signed a halfback to a long term deal.

I thought I heard it was 250K per season for 3 years.

You'd know better than me - but I'm reasonably certain that's right.

Mortimer should be considered. Im sick of people saying that whenever a young halfback comes through the ranks, theyre not ready for first grade. I mean that sort of talk doesnt give a young kid confidence.

Give him a go, if it works thats great, if it fails so be it, at least he's had a crack.

Imagine Souths thinking that about Chris Sandow?
At the beginning of last season, he was fourth choice first grade halfback.

I would throw some money to get Cooper Cronk. Throw him the captaincy. In my opinion he seems to be a decent a half back.
