I would throw some money to get Cooper Cronk. Throw him the captaincy. In my opinion he seems to be a decent a half back.

Cronk is a myth. Allthough a better option at half than finch he would not be worth chasing. Plus i think he only re-signed with storm last year.

Mortimer should be considered. Im sick of people saying that whenever a young halfback comes through the ranks, theyre not ready for first grade. I mean that sort of talk doesnt give a young kid confidence.

Give him a go, if it works thats great, if it fails so be it, at least he's had a crack.

Robson will wear the 7 this week, but Mortimer/Keating is the obvious long-term choice if they don't sign anyone to fill HB at the end of the year.

well that would be hard considering he recently signed a long term deal with the storm...seriously you just keep coming up with them dont you

Monaghan is my preferred option...very astute player who can cover 6,7, and 9 and be excellent at any one of them. And he sees himself as a halfback, a spot we can definitely offer him lol.

Other options would include Blake Green, Matt Head, possibly Tim Smith with conditions...and I wonder if either Hodkinson or Maloney is unhappy with their "shot at first grade" elsewhere :p

Short term soliution (ie this week):
1. Burt/Hayne
2. Hayne/Burt (Tautai drops back to Wenty)
6. Kris Keating
7. Robson (confirmed according to Rothfield, has had FG experience)
9. Matt Keating
13. Mateo
14. Kinsgton

Medium term (by end of season):
1. Hayne (once he learns how to shout directions to the line and wingers in defence)
2. Burt (Reddy comes back into the side at centre over Inu, but there's bound to be a backlien injury by then causing a reshuffle)
6. Mateo
7. Kris Keating
9. Matt Keating
13. whoever (3rd backrower)
14. Kingston/Robson/ blood Mortimer/Kelly/whoever DA wants most to step up the next season.

Long term (ie next season onwards):
1. Hayne
2. Reddy (Burt as the back-up/reserve back or Wenty)
6. K Keating/Buy someone.... !!!
7. Buy someone.... !!!/ K Keating
9. M Keating
13. Mateo
14. Mortimer/Kelly... whoever DA plans to have step up to 6/7 in future years. (Robson/Kingston back to Wenty for injury cover)

Need to buy someone for 6/7 for next year, and then to slide to the bench the year after. Would suit someone older (late 20s) with experience - doesn't have to be a superstar or run the whole show, just decent that will let Keating, Mortimer, whoever develop around him ready for the year after.

Is Casey McGuire still playing in the halves somewhere (Catalans), he'd be the right age and stage?

Robson wasn't named for Wenty but is now considered to replace Finchy for Friday Night?

For those who were at the Rooster vs Eels game and saw the body language of Finchy, Mateo, Hayne and Cayless whilst waiting for the Roosters to except the Jack Gibson Shield, you knew something wasn't right.

But when DA named his side with Finchy in their and No Robson for Wenty, perhaps DA knew that Finchy was gonna throw the towel in?

Now since RObson wasn't named, is he out injured for Wenty not to be named?

As much as i was a fan of Tim Smith i wouldn't touch him now with a barge pole. He is gone and we have to move forward. KK to get first crack at the 7 jersey. Mortimer to Wenty to have some experience against some big boppa's and maybe give him a crack later in the year. At the moment i think they are DA's only options.

Use the money to buy some big aggressive forwards.
Use KK or Mortimer behind a big pack and they can grow into their positions.
Albert Kelly may get a chance next year also.

My 1st priority would be getting some steel in that forward pack.
You can have Jonathan Thurston behind our current pack and he would struggle.

After the loss of Finch, and possibly of lossing other guys in our top 25 like Josh Cordoba, Kevin Kingston, Todd Lowrie, Jeff Robson. We could still potentially buy 2 good player (forwards id assume) and keep Cayless and Fui.

If we bought a Poore and Creigh, with players like Paulo, Mannah and Wright, we could still have a good forward pack.

8 Cayless
10 Poore
11 Hindmarsh
12 Creigh
13 Mateo

14 Wright
15 Mannah
16 Paulo
17 Fuifui

That would allow guys like Keating, Mortimore and Kelly a perfect platform. If Cayless doesn't lift, and anderson does send him packing, you could possibly look to sign a quality half/5-8 (if there are avaliable) or better our forward pack.

While with Manly, Michael Monahan was the best half-back in the NRL. Had an incredible kicking game, was a great thinker and planner, great defender, great runner of the football. Could play half, five-eight and hooker. Was a marvellous captain for Manly and graciously relinquished the halfback spot to play hooker when Orford joined from Melbourne (showing he has a good attitude as well). I can`t think of a better option in the world than him.

Ok I will throw my hat into the ring and say there is a halfback at Brisbane who will be an absolute star in the next few years.
His name is Ben Hunt and he would have been playing 1st grade if Wallace had bombed. He is currently their under 20s captain and - he can play.

Actually the past few weeks he has been playing for the Qld Cup feeder side rather than Under 20's FH..... ;-)

You are correct Colonel. Brisbane Norths.
This kid can play and is big enough to play first grade.
AND is a natural halfback not a manufactured one like Mortimer is.

All this talk about PJ and Monas is silly. We dont need old hacks, we need young skillfull players that want an opportunity.

There is a reason, Monas and PJ and for that matter Tim Smith are not where they want to be in their footballing careers.
