Potter gone - OFFICIAL

Hope Potter goes on to bigger and better things with another club. Has been nothing but classy in his tenure at Wests. Shame he wasn't treated better.

If anybody but Griffin gets appointed it has been a waste of time.

Parish is a truly worthless merkin. Not to mention all the baggage he brings in terms of f**king Ray Hadley's missus.

HT is right though. WT sack the old coach and promise to give the new one the opportunities never afforded to Potter

I can't remember who predicted (I think it was Mad Unit) that Potter's whole tenture at the Wests Tigers was temporary. They wanted a rookie who would take a broom through our playing rosters, blood all our young guns and pretty much take the blame for our abysmal two seasons.

It appears that this was the strategy all along. Robbie Farah was as much a fall guy as Potter (why admit this was your strategy when you could spread rumours it was a falling out between your star player and the coach?).

This whole thing is dark and dirty work...but may have been necessary (I honestly don't know). Whether it pays off in the long term is yet to be seen but the way Potter has been treated is pathetic. They should have told him this earlier.

I know Trent Robinson is good friends with Mick Potter - and Robbo doesn't strike me as the bloke that would be friends with a mug - so if Jason Taylor gets the gig or moves on somewhere else then it wouldn't surprise me to see Potter as an assistant at the Roosters next year.

Given the way this club operates, I'd not be surprised to learn that they've let Potter go without even interviewing their target.

Will Griffin come here for the same salary as Potter? Not bloody likely.

The fallout continues...

But moving on...I really hope Griffin is the coach for these reasons:

- Wayne Bennet will most likely bring staff and players that he wants at the expense of Broncos staff and players. They will follow Griffin when they need a new club (e.g. Josh Hoffman).
- Broncos will get found out for being over the cap eventually. When they do, Griffin will be first in line to pick up the quality players who get squeezed out.
- He has a proven track record of developing young talent

WESTS Tigers coach Mick Potter has been sacked.

The club announced the decision this morning via an email.
It ends a tumultuous period where Potter was under heavy pressure to perform.
Wests Tigers CEO Grant Mayer wants Potter’s replacement named no later than October 27.

In the statement, Mayer said: “Wests Tigers Board and management would like to thank Mick Potter for the professional manner in which he has conducted himself as head coach for the past two years. The club acknowledges that this was often under difficult circumstances.
“This has been a difficult decision for everyone involved but one that the club believes is in the best interests of a successful future for Wests Tigers. Clearly there will be many disappointed fans as, to his credit, Mick has developed a strong following here.
“However, we ask that you trust that we have made this decision in the interests of a stronger, unified club, following a rigorous and fair process.
“Mick Potter had been given three opportunities over the past six weeks to address the Board and present his vision and plan for Wests Tigers going forward. Taking this into account, the Wests Tigers Board and management agree that a fresh approach is needed and the Club will immediately begin a process to identify leading candidates for the role.
“The newly appointed head coach will be given complete control over the appointment of all key football staff and his playing roster.
“The board and management of Wests Tigers would like to thank Mick Potter for his work over the past two years, and for the professional manner which he has conducted himself. The club plans to have in place a new Head Coach no later than October 27, ahead of the start of the pre-season on November 3.”
Nathan Brown and Anthony Griffin are the favourites to replace Potter.

Just hope they don't call Potter for a heads up on what coaching WT is like beforehand. They will run a mile.

Poor fella wasn't given a fair go. Good luck and thanks for trying with what you were afforded.
Brian Smith did our review and now has his name in the hat for the gig. Wouldn't be surprised if he was the queen white ant.
He should be excluded due to conflict of interests.

f**k this club is amateur.

Bring in a bloke and give him no authority and then make him the scapegoat for our loss when he has no authority over recruitment or retention, whose boss is a softcock that couldn't lead a fat merkin to an all you can eat buffet.

And if he is replaced by Parish, then we'll have gone full circle in the utter f**kwittery stakes.

Don't replace a rookie coach with an untested rookie who has to coach a heap of kids and a captain whose ego is immense.

An old head to keep everyone in line is whats needed. Folkes or Griffin would be ideal.

We're considering some unknown entity and we all know why.

because he's cheap.

We are the ALDI of NRL teams.

To be fair Smithy will probably sort the club out to allow a young promising coach come in and carry on success like he did with Roosters. He's a very good squad builder Smithy

What money on the Oct 27 deadline being missed?

Why we waiting that long?
5 more weeks of uncertainty and no recruitment to speak of.
Nobody of any stature will come to the club with no head coach in place.

I see Merrin wants out but we will never attract anyone of that calibre with the club in tatters.

Maybe so but he was bought in for a club review.
I'd like to see his findings before even considering his appointment.

My inclusions in bold

In the statement, Mayer said:
“Wests Tigers Board and management would like to thank Mick Potter for the professional manner in which he has conducted himself as head coach for the past two years. How does all of the board know how professional he has been? Oh that's right, Mayer must have told them. Yes thanks, professional, unlike the Board and management.

The club acknowledges that this was often under difficult circumstances. Yep and 'the club' hopefully put their collective hands up to take responsibility !

“This has been a difficult decision for everyone involved but one that the club believes is in the best interests of a successful future for Wests Tigers. Only if you, 'the club' know already, who the next coach will be, otherwise !

Clearly there will be many disappointed fans as, to his credit, Mick has developed a strong following here. What a genius of a man. He acknowledges that Mick has developed a strong following, is he aware that he, Mayer, is in the opposite position?

“However, we ask that you trust that we have made this decision in the interests of a stronger, unified club, following a rigorous and fair process.

“Mick Potter had been given three opportunities over the past six weeks to address the Board and present his vision and plan for Wests Tigers going forward. Nathan Brown and Anthony Griffin are the favourites to replace Potter.

So, we now know that Potter and Payten have gone. Assume Kidwell as well but what about the Webster who still has a team playing finals football? Oh that's right this is the new professional approach.
