Well lads, what do you think your club needs at the upcoming draft?

Hawthorn will have 4 picks (6,24,33 & 40).

Pick 40 is already devoted to father/son pick Joshua Kennedy who is a solidly built peripheral defender/inside midfielder.

With our other three picks, our most pressing concerns are getting a ruckman, a key defender and an outside midfielder.

Ideally, we'd get Matthew Leuenberger @ 6 to fill the ruck spot, a player like Eric McKenzie or Mitchell Brown @ 24 to fill the key defensive spot and whoever is the best available outside midfield option with pick 33.

Alternatively, if Hansen, Thorp or Sellar (in that order) were available at 6 (and Leuenberger already taken) then we'd take one of those and switch pick 24 to the best ruck option available. Hampson impresses me as a guy who is two metres tall and can run the 20m in a sub 3 second time, and I've heard good things about the skill level of Sam Jacobs, so either of these guys would do.

There's been plenty of talk about Hawthorn taking Selwood at 6. He's a good prospect, but I'd be loathe to take another inside midfielder ahead of a tall and I don't think he'd last past pick 4 anyway.

A tall that has the ability to play, oh I dont know, ONE whole season perhaps? And one, just bloody one, consistent straight kick both on the run & from a set shot.

Oh yeah, & as always a new Libba...

Inside mid with our first pick, tall defenders/ruckmen with the remaining.

Inside mids will be interesting, Craig.

The only 3 that are highly rated are Gibbs, Selwood and Connors and I'd expect all to go top ten.

There may be a chance of Connors slipping through, although I hear that Richmond are one of several clubs to be very interested in Travis Boak, who I understand to be more of an outside midfielder.

If the Hounds can see past their midfielder with first pick obsession at this draft, I can see them taking Jarryd Allen with pick 11.

I think they really need to be honing in on KPP forward types and he would probably be of interest.

We need a midfielder and ideally 1 KPP. Hopefully Gibbs doesn't go no1, and we take him and possibly a late KPP. If Gibbs goes, then I'd punt on Hansen or Luxenberg at no2 frankly.

Collingwood Picks 8, 10, 28, 44, 63

picks 8&10 will be used to get quick and skilled midfielders, pick 28 for a KPP/Ruckman, and 44 just the best of whats available
i expect pies to save pick 63 for PSD

Hands off the big Berger at 2, Lockmeister!

With Gibbs all but already signed with Carlton, Hansen seems the obvious pick 2 target at Essendon, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they might choose to run with Selwood.

If Mitchell Thorp or James Sellar were on offer at pick 8 do you think the Pies would pass them over?

I strongly suspect that Hawthorn have identified Leuenberger as the hottest prospect on offer (period) in this draft.

Clearly, I share this view and would deadset go internally berserk were his name to get called out @ 6...

And if I had the chance I'd ask the world to dance and I'd be dancing with myself! :(

I'm fair dinkum day dream believing, as its simply not going to happen (sob).

Were I a betting man, my money would be on Mitchell Thorpe to go to Hawthorn @ pick 6; which would certainly be a very nice consolation prize.

I really don't want Selwood! I'd rather take a ruckman!

But I don't want Essendon to take Leuenberger, so you must learn to like Selwood!

He's a more than handy type, what doesn't float your boat about him, Lockers?

f**king inconsistent! That is why! I'd rather punt on a ruckman who is clearly the best ruck in the draft, rather than a KPP who is on one week, off the next! I'd take a few players ahead of the one you want us to take!

?????

Selwood is a quick inside midfielder, with strong leadeership skills and a very sound work ethic.

Who the flock are you thinking of?!

Bugger, I was thinking of Hansen. Honestly, I have said this before, I'd rather take a ruckman rather than a KPP or a mid that is not Gibbs at no2. You can get a KPP or a midfielder with your 2nd pick IMO!

You can get a KPP with pick 73, but the difference between the elite options in the top ten and those that come below can be significant to vast!

That said, were I ewssendon I'd also run with Leuneberger and hope that a Nathan Brown or Eric McKenzie were still available at pick 18.

Still, if Hansen slips through to us at 6 I certainly won't be crying about it, as he is quality.

We get pick 2 and pick 18 this year, the others I could not care less, possibly a couple of mids with the other 2. I'd use the last one for the PSD.

Pick 2- Luxemberg
Pick 18- A KPP, pref a CHB.

Then the following year we should quailify for the priority pick, so we should get a extra pick next year. IMO I am not expecting much from us next year!

You also get pick 20 this year, Lockers, which should net something good.

Agreed and hopefully we use it smartly. IMO at the moment our backline is the one that needs the picks being used. Ideally we need a CHB, a back flank, Ruck (only if it is Luxemberg though as Hille is fine at the moment), and a couple of mids. We have plenty of forwards. In a ideal world we'd like a CHF, but i'd take a CHB ahead of a CHF in our side!
