Our halves controlled the game and showed their class in the end.

Well that's not true. They combined for four errors but only one LBA and one forced dropout. It wasn't really a game for halves to take control. Falls and Cogger did f**k all as well, and they are both in their mid-20s, with 45 NRL games between them.

It was a clunky, high effort defensive game, and Penrith's defence came out on top. No need to blame the halves for that.

The lack of development in JA’s game because he spent a lot of last year on the bench can’t be underestimated. The bloke needs to be out there plying his trade for 80 in order to improve.

Other than that... it was a trial. The coaching to staff got see what some players brought to a real game situation, and know what they have to work with to develop these (mostly) back-ups.

They where horrible and shouldn't be our back ups or even considered. Rankin shouldn't be in the NSW cup side. He is never going tonbe in the NRL. We need a guy who can push JA for the spot as back up.

I wouldn't be to harsh on him or Doorey yet. Lane was rubbish also. They've cemented spots. I reckon a high chance coach said don't use to much energy just have a run. You'll play next week.
Guys like Rodwell and Greig would still be trying to impress and stand out to get a bench spot.

Mataele is just a physical specimen.

I feel similar on Russel but would like to see more. He looks safe just not explosive. I don't see a super talent.

Russell's involvement was good but he's not as physical as Cini. Merkin got nine tackle breaks today. He couldn't have done any more. Except maybe ten or eleven tackle breaks.
