You’re both wrong on that pic. Given how tight the A defender is the back rower and by extension Cini should’ve be wider and deeper.
Shortball is covered by at least 3 defenders and a secondary pass isn’t available because Cini is already in front of backrower.
An unders run is slightly better but Cini would immediately be covered by centre and fullback and there’s also little chance of secondary pass (unless Cini catches and turns - but he’s not Junior).
Setup like we are here, the shortball would be because we f**ked our structure and can’t use it, otherwise it’s near useless. While the unders run at least doubles as a long term setup play trying to get the opposition centre cheating later in the game

I’ll give you the defending backrower is blinded by Hodgson’s shiny chromedome, but the marker is visibly pushing across as is the fullback. Our guy is also running straight at their centre, and we know, even though he looks it, he isn’t on the back foot because the very next frame he steps into the passing lane. So a shortball and our guy is hitting his opposite as a semi speed bump, being hit by their centre (with Cini already past the play), the marker would come across high to stop the ball and fullback (plus inside defender) would be lurking to stop ball getting to ground. A try here would paper over the fact we’re out of structure (for whatever reason).
Given it’s likely the backrower’s fault, probably a shortball dump for him to take hit would be appropriate.

If this Betham kid and Matalele fire. Both look to have some potential then all of a sudden we can see why we let Papali'i and Marata go and signed a couple of cheapies to fill in for a little while.
Both I reckon are old enough if good enough to come into the side by mid season.
I also wouldnlike to see Tevita. I think he has a bit of potential also.

Watch the video there is no one in front of Moma the marker isn't pushing across and the fullback is no where near him. The centre is also defensing Cini and going for the intercept.

Yeah maybe Momoisea should've been a step wider. But if he had surely the defence would've adjusted. Like I said, it wasn't just the fullback, it was the other two blokes as well. Momoisea's line meant both defenders were able to cover him and Hodgson instead of isolating either of them.

They probably wouldn't have been where they were if Momoisea was wider. Defenders position themselves relative to attackers.

Yeah maybe Momoisea should've been a step wider. But if he had surely the defence would've adjusted. Like I said, it wasn't just the fullback, it was the other two blokes as well. Momoisea's line meant both defenders were able to cover him and Hodgson instead of isolating either of them.

He didn't need to go wider the gap is big enough, but if he was wider that would have probably prevented the intercept as the Panfer center would of had to cover him.
The 2 markers we slow to get out of marker that's why there was a gap for Moma with the line he was running.

Unless there's a quick play the ball and their opportunity to do so is limited... which is the whole aim of getting on a roll in attack in the opposition 20.
