Predictions for Top 8 by Round 26

They need to win all the home games and beat the Dogs and have other results go in our favour to make it.

The frustraing part is we beat St George, Warriors, Manly and Eels on the road this year and lost winnable games to the Roosters, Bulldogs, Cowboys, Tigers x 2 and Souths.

We are our own worst enemy and have nobody to blame but ourselves if we miss the eight.

I love watching the Raiders play when they're on. That first half yesterday was diabolical!

I don't think they'll pull the miracle. They lack consistency though and their calendar is too tough to get more than 4 out of 7, which would put them on 26 points...

Yep. Although Raiders can still make it. We (Knights) were sh*t house yesterday, deadset sh*t house. They beat us and a fairly mediocre side of Manly a fortnight ago. Before that for a month they were terrible and before that they have been inconsistent. I don't see them making the finals.
They will be from 10-12th.

Based on the ladder predictor at nrl.com, although my tipping isn't that good, plus im tipping on current form, who knows how some teams will go over the next 7 rounds, my predictions:

1. Dragons
2. West Tigers
3. Panthers
4. Broncos
5. Warriors
6. Sea Eagles
7. Roosters
8. Titans

9. Raiders
10. Rabbitohs
11. Eels

I've had a go with the NRL's ladder predictor:

Saints 42
Penrith 36
Roosters 32
Brisbane 30
Manly 30
Tigers 30
Parra 30
Warriors 30

Titans 30
Souths 26
Canberra 26
Newcastle 24
Canterbury 18
Cowboys 16
Cronulla 16
Melbourne 0 (32)

It's a bit tricky predicting finishing order with 6 team tied on 30, but if such were to happen, I'd back the Titans to be the team to fall short, and Brisbane to be the team that sneaks 4th spot. Quite simply, there are so many games that could go either way looking at it from this far out, it's almost impossible to make any prediction other than the Saints probably winning the MP again, and Melbourne staring at either the Cowboys or Sharks arses. The Dogs are probably gone too. They'd need to win 6 out of 7, and depending on other results, potentially 7 out of 7. Not going to happen.

The NRL.com ladder predictor is a woeful piece of software.

For example, they're basing it off today's ladder yet still letting you enter scores for round 19. What this means is that all round 19 results - bar tonight obviously - are being counted twice.

Secondly, the for and against is broken. It doesn't aggregate as it should. For example, the Raiders' differential is -57 at the moment. If I say the Raiders beat the Sharks by 20, it will calculate the differential correctly to be -37. If, however, in the next round, I say that the Storm beat the Raiders by 6, instead of calculating the differential to be -43 as you would expect, it calculates it to be -63. It always uses the current NRL table as a base for calculations, and not the one being built in memory.

So basically, in a competition this tight where positions are definitely going to be decided on for and against, it doesn't work. The for and against that will be used for final ladder positions will be whatever it is now, plus whatever you put the scores as being in round 26.

To be honest, if I was involved in its development I would be embarrassed to put my name to it.

Last I checked it had a much simpler malfunction which made it un-useable - it gave four competition points per victory.

Jason - regardless of what you think of the 'Dogs, if you think they'll only snag one more win between now and September you're kidding yourself

Good find!
Indeed, that's a piece of crap software. I'll just stick to my spreadsheet! ;-)

Raiders wont make the 8, we are too inconsistent. We will probably rack up another couple of big wins but we wont win the 6 games needed to make the top 8.

Oh Timmah. You take everything so personally. If you think my prediction was based on which teams I like and don't like, then please explain why I'm predicting Brisbane and Manly to make the finals, and why I'm not predicting Melbourne to lose every remaining game, and why I didn't predict the Saints to go undefeated.

And yes, the predictor is a piece of sh*t, hence why I had to make a guess at the finishing order for the 6 teams on 30 points.

Right now, I'd take the Titans out of the 8 and add in one of the Rabbitohs/Eels/Raiders, depending on the team that makes a run over the final stages.

It is just too hard this year to pick it.

I'm leading tipping competitions at a 58% tip rate. Add to that you can't pick which Storm team will show up, refs, injuries or whatever else.

IMHO the teams that will break away are Dragons, panthers and Warriors.

I think the warriors are looking pretty good for a team at $19.

Jason - not taking anything personally, just don't understand why a team currently in good form would lose 6 of it's remaining 7 games. Especially given their opposition includes teams like Newcastle, Cowboys and Raiders...

They shouldn't have lost on Sunday, yet they did.
