I don't think it matters if you put Thorman in the 6 or 7 as if he and Dykes are the halves they will be on the opposite side of the ruck with both at first receiver. They both need to have the ball (similar to Mundine/Barrett) and like to run at the line. They will definitely give the attack another dimension but I'm not sure you can have those two plus Morris AND Muspratt all on the park at the same time. Too many ball players was our problem in the past with Penna, Bell, Dymock, Moran etc. They will probably get in each other's way so I would restrict it to 3 at a time.

There is no way I would really classify Penna and Bell as 'ball players' as such, they might have been playing in the halves, but they were not ball players. They were both more 'running players', particularly Bell. Moran I always classified as similar to PJ Marsh. What of those players that is pretty handy to have in my opinion. This is something that we only half-heartedly have now in Webster.

When you have the likes of Smith and Dymock in your team, you dont neccessarily need ball players in the 7 anyway. But there is no way you can say that we have anywhere near the ball playing ability of Smith and Dymock at Parramatta now. In fact we have gone from one extreme to the other with Wagon and O'Dwyer presently occupying the same positions that Dymock and Smith played.

I think we could accomodate Morris, Dykes, Muspratt & Thorman into the side, just not all on the park at the same time.

I think we could start with Morris & Dykes in the halves with Muspratt at hooker and Thorman starting on the bench (taking Websters place) with either Wagon, Muckert or Hopkins at lock.

This would give us a variety of options as Morris can cover 5/8th & hooker, Dykes 5/8th & half, Muspratt hooker, lock & 5/8th and Thorman 5/8th & half.

6. Morris / Muspratt
7. Dykes
9. Muspratt / Morris
13. Wagon / Muckert / Hopkins

14. Thorman

I thing i've noticed about Thorman is that he's a bloody talker!!.....you can hear his Pommie acent from miles away

Im we are to see an Injury to Webster, Dykes or Morris....im expecting Thorman to imediately be given a chance in firsts, he's a great player with the whole lot!...something that Webster doesn't have.

It just seems to me that Thorman is a class above Witt, Thorman always seems to have a hand in all the try's.

I reckon everyone get out to the game on Monday early to watch Thorman and the boys play.

I have done that for the past hmmm 10 odd years, i usually get to see 3 live games a year, 2 at parra and 1 up in Auckland.
last year I was spoilt and saw 5
This year i'm hoping I can still afford the 3 [-o<

Getting back to the actual topic

based on what I've seen in reggies I've got to agree that THorman is looking a lot better then Witt, but I'm intrested to see if that can continue once Thorman is in the top grade.

as good as he has gone though Thorman still needs to work on his bal control I'm not sure if the steedens are that different to the british ones or maybe Thorman had handling problems in the UK aswell but he is dropping too much ball for me top put him in the top grade just yet.

Curtis was #12, Petersen #11 and the buggers did the same thing to us last year scoring on the bell to win the game...

Put Witt and Thorman in First Grade together and Witt will outplay him.

If you were Witt and you were used and then put straight back in P/L because the golden boy came back, would you have any confidence at all?? I know i wouldn't.

From what i saw of Thorman, his kicking game was shocking and the rest of his game was of normal first grade standard over in the UK, by Aussie standards his first grade form would be no better than McFadden.........and we all know how great that was!!!!

Thorman played very well for England A against Australia, and nearly won the game for England A.

You underestimate his potential. If he can cut it against the Aussie team he can obviously cut it in the NRL.

He is still finding his feet, in Australia.

It sounds like he still has a bit to go.

I'm so sick of people making excuses for Witt. If and when his form is good enough he'll get picked in first grade. End of story.

Gotta agree with you Parraren

If Witt does have an attitude of "I derserve to in 1st grade" then he'll never get there again at least not in an Eels jersey.

Witt had an off season surgury he started behind Dykes, Wagon etc so it's up to him to show good enough form to force those players out not up to Smith to pick him in 1st grade so he can then get form/confidence.

From what I've seen in reggies Thorman has been better then Witt so he should be picked first.

At there best Witt may well be better then Thorman but on current form Thorman is ahead of Witt by a fair margin at times aswell.

It is early season, when Witt and Thorman are in form and i hope that is by the end of the season, Parramatta will be very dangerous.
