Not very nice RedVDave, even if I thought the same about a forum member, I would not come out and be so rude.

My thoughts are that we are stuck in a situation where we are going to be lumped with Mary for another 2-3 years. If he was replaced by Barrett for the remainder of this year, it will give the Board enough time to hire a real coach.

This is the problem possm, we now have too good a roster for Mary to be sacked.

Can we win the comp....Yes! Anything is possible, but many obstacles would have to fall into place just like Steven Bradbury's miraculous victory.
In theory & on paper we have the roster, but the peanut driving the bus is the biggest concern. If Mary would just listen & learn from his continued failure in bench selection & rotation plus his poor decision making in development & selection of younger players.
If we had Seibold or Robinson as Dragons Coach then I would be very confident, unfortunately we are stuck with A bog average coach trying & giving his best, but ultimately out of his league.

My biggest problem is whether the best players are picked each week and what positions they are put in, will determine how far we go.

We are a very good chance.
If our combinations click and a couple of young guns step up in the forwards we will win it.

How good is it to have top class cover for the halves with Widdop Norman and Hunt. I am also a big fan of Field at 5/8.
We have Dufty as backup for Fullback.
Then we have Robson as cover for No.9.
Our spine is ridiculously well set to get through injuries without missing a beat.

Re-shuffling of the spine. How will Gaz do at FB? I think he's a great 6.
How will Norman / Hunt combine ? Will Mary start using Hunt at 9 ?

Having a specialist FB on the bench is a waste. He either plays FB or ISP.
Our centres are average if he sticks with Aitken ( in particular ) and Lafai. Untested wingers, although Jordan deserves a crack.

The one known, is Mary, and sorry I don't have enough confidence in his judgement / selection / game plan.

We are one injury away from a depleted pack. JDB wont play, lost LAM, will have to rely on Host / Luc / Kerr / Lawrie etc which is fine for their experience, but lacking real depth.

To me, on paper we are a fringe top 8 side.

PS, as to replacing Mary with Barrett, well that is groundhog day.
Price to Mary, then Mary to Trent... what could possibly go wrong there ?

I still think if I was to pick our team that we would have the second best team in the comp even without DeBelin. I think Frizell is one of the best locks in the game and covers for DeBelin. I also think that if Lucky was given the Frizell's edge backrow spot, he would have a break out year and add another dimension to our attack. No DeBelin would effect our depth.

Why can’t we have a process as Brisbane did to get a coach. According to the article I read Siebold turned up to his interview with a power point presentation, video presentation and statistics. He pitched for the job and was of Bennett and Walters by far the best and most professional. This IMO is what we need and want.

No..we cant. WHY

We dont have a strong No 2-5.
We are too conservative in our team selections and playbook
Stats and previous wins are the only thing Mary looks at going forward.
Dufty as a bench player is a disaster waiting to unfold, not because of Dufty, because it is a waste of time and potentially upsetting our backs spine during a game.
Widdop is not a fullback and slow to cover and does not have speed anyway for that position. He will be stuffed by the time he slots back to No 6..if that is what they do during a game.

Aitken or Norman should be 14 if you going to carry a back on the bench.
Aitken could cover in the forwards if injury as a bash / barge merchant.
Norman can cover anywhere in the backs

That will do for now without a ball being kicked. I'll add to that or delete as the season unfolds!

If Baz becomes Assistant I have higher hopes of winning the comp. With Mary and his 2 "yes" men (Young & Hornby) they will provide some highlights but go through the usual slump. Baz is a great coach and will be great for the team especially for the halves.
