Price and Civoniceva

Last year everybody was saying that they were too old etc, but they were instrumental in the series win (though White and Cross were terrible selections IMO)

I wonder, however, if the selectors have gone one year too far in selecting them this year- Price has not been in great form for us this year. I'm sure QLD are good enough to win even if they don't win up front, however could NSW be a chance of ascendancy here?

Price had only come back from injury for two games before being selected for game 2 last year and look what happened...

I'm not worried at all about their performance as Origin always seems to bring out the best in Price and Seven Cents a Litre

I don't know a single time Cross was properly match fit last season (aside from a handful of games for us), Origin was certainly not one of those.

I haven't paid much attention to Price this season, but Petero is looking as fit as ever for the Panthers. I would imagine both blokes will be digging a little deeper on Wednesday anyway. If these blokes were eligible for NSW, they would be the first players picked for sure.

The thing that worries me, as a Queenslander, is what happens when these guys retire. We don't have a lot of depth in the forwards, certainly nowhere near as much as NSW have.

So who do we pick up front as their replacements? Matt Scott? Convert Myles to a front-rower permanently?

All the other options suck. Tronc? Kaufusi? they both suck. Is Nick Kenny a QLDer?

Well you have Hannant--- who IMO is THE form front rower of the comp this year, thats a start.

Kenny is a qlder yep. Tronc is far too slow for origin. Hannant, Myles, Thaiday, Kenny and I hope, one day Taylor.

Price and Civ have both signalled their intention to continue playing for Qld as long as they play NRL.

Matt Scott has the goods to be a long-term prop for Qld IMO.

This year's Queensland team is probably the most balanced I've ever seen. Big and fast backs, a craft 5/8-half-hooker combination with experience playing together, a workmanline backrow, the 'rocks' up front in Civ and Price; and impact from the bench ... if they can put it together on Wednesday night it should be something to see.

Slater starting is my only concern.

I hope he proves me wrong.

I have met him and he was far from arrogant.

From what I've seen of Civoniceva, he's playing great football. I guess my question is more Price. I am a Warrior's fan (and a Queensland fan) and his form has not been fantastic this season...not terrible, but maybe not representative. I am sure he will grow an extra arm and leg for Origin- but the forward pack from NSW looks much better, and won't be put on the back foot so easily this year.

I don't think Price or Petero are past it yet, but NSW would be silly not to try to target these guys considering their age and size.

IMO, NSW should forget about trying to target the QLD backline and focus on the middle third of the field and running plenty of plays at the QLD forwards, Robbie Farah is the perfect linchpin for this attack and with the recent additions of Luke Lewis and Anthony Laffranchi, I think this is NSW's best chance of causing an upset. Plenty of angled runners in the middle of the ruck and try to catch out the QLD forwards tiring, with guys like Farah, Gidley and Jennings, I believe this is their best chance.

Oh and for the record, I've always thought the Price comes across as a really nice dude, although he does suck up to the refs quite a bit...
