NRL: Price worst captain - match officials

Rugby league's first match officials poll has installed Warriors skipper Steve Price as one of the worst captains to deal with in the National Rugby League (NRL).

Rugby League Week managed to coax replies from officials who are under instruction to keep their views to themselves.

The magazine's survey found Price and Manly's Matt Orford the most difficult captains to work with, Gold Coast skipper Scott Prince the best, and Brisbane's Justin Hodges the biggest sledger.

In an ironic twist, Brett Finch, son of NRL referees boss Robert Finch, was voted the biggest sook and worst behaved player.

Thirty per cent of respondents voted for Melbourne's Finch in both categories.

The Storm are also the team that shows the least respect, according to refs, touchies and video refs.

Disturbingly, 80 per cent of those surveyed said they had been personally threatened by fans.

And 80 per cent said the eye in the sky was being used too much although everyone agreed video referees should be retained.

This surprises me. He doesn't seem to be that lippy with referees. I wonder what he's doing that rubs them up the wrong way?

Lol, damn right. You have every right to query on field decisions get them to justify things.
But I will put money on this poll changing from year to year-It's a safe bet that the Clubs not doing as well as they should will have the grumpiest, and shall we say 'inquisitive' captains!

Cos JT is in that elite group that is 'NRL Darling' where they can do no wrong, not get suspended etc...she's a different law for those special few

I think by "worst to deal with" they mean who gives the refs the most greif and questions.. this would be Steve Price or pretty dam close to it.

He is always talking to the refs.. and i'd rather have a captain who was talking to refs than one thats a pushover like some others out there.

Lol, I don't want to bag state of origin III from this year, IMO the best origin game for ages (Even though QLD lost) with some of the old fire back in...but some of the players who escaped various things was amazing.
Meanwhile, before the ANZAC test this year, poor Issac Luke gets pinged for the Test after officials pinged him pretty harshly on a 50/50 call, with no penalty, no 'put on report'...just sifted through the game tape during the following week.
Then you get Wades 'spitgate' situation. Yes the guys a Basil fawlty who the officials hate, but IMO it was obvious he was stitched up without evidence. Had the evidence been there (Other than a touchie's word who couldn't see a massively forward pass straight in front of him several minutes earlier, yet could see Wade from miles away spit in his direction) he would've got a massive ban-and fair enough too. So they took a dollar each way and banned him for a little bit. Had it been a Thurston or a Lockyer who spat while glaring at an incompetant touchie IMO it would not have got anywhere.

Some players real crime was not having a surname like Slater, Lockyer, Thurston...
