To copy my post from the off season thread:

So now there can be a ton of collisions with the head (plus other collisions and falls resulting in injuries) while contesting short kickoffs...

In all seriousness, i'm not against this. Nor am i for it, though.

Yeah, I dunno... guess I see the reasoning... head high tackles etc are part of the issue, but tbh tackling is the issue, at worst heads end up hitting hips or knees etc, but even a solid well executed tackle results in a significant trauma to the head, that is repeated over and over

It absolutely ridiculous, there were thousands of kick offs this season, and a handful of people that got knocked out. Will have to walk the ball into tackles next

I’d still belt the ball long and back the defence to have you in a better spot after 2 tackles than the short kickoff

The Lindsay Collins KO by NAS occured on the 15m line:

If you kick it short of the 20m line, let's say 25-30m, there's no advantage to that. You're kicking long all day and chasing. Obviously the NRL hopes people will kick short to a contest because of that.

You must protect the head but you can't irreplably change how the game feels. And there's other ways to police it through big suspensions when it goes wrong
