I own both - which I find counts for little usually - and I'll say that people should stop wasting time arguing over which is better and enjoy what they have. I prefer my PS3 because I am more familiar with it and prefer the controller but that doesn't mean I think the Xbox 360 is of any less quality.

Good advice! Although I went 360 because the 'deal was better' more than anything else...I would have been equally happy with a ps3 I'm sure!

Video games wise, I have lived under a rock for about ten years. Im inspired to buy one now, yet don't know which way to go? Which platform is truly better?

Depends on the games you want to play? I have both but only play Halo on my 360 in fact I have now backed it completely away. I switched to the PS3 for several reasons firstly its a blu-ray player, it has some great exclusives and the online is free and imo not as competitive as Xbox live with a more casual feel. If your more into online games like COD then I would get the 360 but to access online features you have to pay a subscription fee.

I have both and I think they're equally as good as each other.

Get a PS3 for their exclusive games (they're amazing) and if you have a good setup at home, (HDTV, surround sound, etc) the added blu-ray player to it is great for movies.

Get a 360 for multi-platform games. PS3 is still fine for that too, but there's usually more bugs on the PS3's version and DLC for games nearly always comes out first on 360. I also prefer the 360's controller, although personal preference.

I enjoy playing both online, although live is a bit better. Xbox Live is $50+ a year and PSN is free. The benefits I get on Live compared to PSN is party chat and a cleaner, more user-friendly interface. PSN is still very good though for a free online service.

Online gaming on the Xbox isn't superior to the PS3,it just that people say that to try and justify the $60 that Microsoft tricked them into paying

PS3 for mine.

I would however suggest holding off on both if you can, the current console lifespan is coming to an end, wait and see whats up next.
