I think it's the fact that their roles are very similar at their clubs, Lockyer would sit back and wait for a time when he was needed to create but after a few years he allowed Thurston to play make.
With Cronk and Thurston I think they're both quite dominant so when one has to be less dominant....they struggle to find a rhythm.

Considering the type of role Widdop plays at Melbourne - very much a running game - and the fact that Smith and Slater are in the team, Thurston will probably have to adjust the most.

They've had plenty of opportunity to develop a combination with Queensland last year and playing together for Australia.

I've silently hoping that McQueen does a hammy at training and Hannant comes into the squad (Kennedy was 18th man and injured his knee last night).

Lillyman's selection as 18th man doesn't represent any preference rather it's just an excuse to fly Jacob from New Zealand into the Queensland camp.

If they haven't chosen Hannant because he's played limited football, how about Cronk? I reckon that's why they went for Cherry-Evans on the bench this time.

Cronk didn't play the last Melbourne game and may be carrying an injury. If he's ruled out, Lilyman comes in from Cronk, and we have a balanced bench again. That's my theory anyway.

Lillyman's been playing some good football for the Warriors. He's been there before. I wouldn't read too much into the fact he does come off the bench, Ben Matulino comes off the bench for the Warriors and quite frankly he's easily the best prop at the club. On form Lillyman is second.

Considering Kennedy was 18th Man before, I believe it was just a direct swap although your theory does hold some merit too Daz.

Iafeta, why doesn't Matulino start? For my money, he's one of the best props in the game yet he's protected off the bench. Does he have defensive deficiencies? Or is Elliott trying to emulate Hasler and bench his best prop?

It's just a tactical thing - Matulino has stated himself he's fine with coming off the bench. He's a good defender but Packer and Rapira (starters) are our best defensive props.

How many Blues will Inglis trample tonight?

Dugan may have a new tattoo tonight- Inglis' handprint on his forehead.

1. None

2. The only tattoos Dugan will be getting is a pic of Inglis on his fat ass while Dugan strolls to the try line and offloads to Jennings to score!
