Question about Matt Dufty

So it is good enough to send a player packing even when he has a couple of years to go on his contract but not good enough when it is the coach ? Everything the club does seems to be to accommodate the coach not the players .

This is the whole problem.

Dufty is an imperfect player for sure but I still think he offers something. Requires some innovation and thinking out of the box to exploit his strengths and minimise weaknesses. Using him in a cookie cutter game plan you could probably get out of a cereal box just ain't gonna cut it.

The fact we have chosen to let him go (rather than Mary) just shows that keeping an imperfect coach with no ability to innovate was the easier path,

The club is screwing over many of the young players we have.
Both Host and Duffy are sent back to reggies. Both can't play in the Semi-finals.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Dufty go to Super League and kill it there before coming back to somewhere like the Titans or Wests.
...or the Storm. They seem to be collecting fullbacks like some people collect stamps. Young Nicho Hynes (only 22) had an impressive debut yesterday against Souths.

Always thought it was wrong to hang onto someone who can score some amazing tries. We don’t need him we have so many attacking weapons across the park and anyway our ‘D’ is the most important thing and our defence is winning us so many games.

Couldn't score in the three minutes allotted to him in the Souths game, never scored a try from a kick, epic fail in my opinion.

They are looking to get rid of Host and Dufty, yet Aitken has probably made double the errors those 2 have made and he gets no mention of being let go?

So is it Millward that is forcing Mary to pick him in the starting side or Mary forcing Millward not to put him on the "For sale" list.

And Lafai, and why not show the door to Maranta and what’s Timm done wrong?

...or the Storm. They seem to be collecting fullbacks like some people collect stamps. Young Nicho Hynes (only 22) had an impressive debut yesterday against Souths.
Nicho is an out & out half or 5/8, the kid is a class above the Q cup level, but has made way for Matty Johns's boy to fit him in at 5/8. Has a passing game, as was evident in the no try yesterday when he put the winger away, only to put his foot into touch, can defend & has speed to burn.
None of these meet the requirements of Mary.
Footnote:
There is a couple more backs in the Falcons team that are better than what we roll out each week........

Size I think is a bit of the past thinking
With a lot of the top fbs being quite lean and fast

The top fullbacks are all over 90+kg and 6' Tedesco, Turbo, TVS, Nikoll-Klonstadt, Ponga, Gutherson, Edwards, Johnston. They are considerably bigger than Dufty and each of them has speed and evasion. But due to their extra size they can also pull through tackles and bend the line when they are bringing the ball back.

Go through this forum you’ll find a load of people saying dufty s always getting out muscled by opposition defenders and gets pushed back too far due to his light frame it’s curren thinking by a lot of people
Tedesco 95kg
Tuivasa sheck 95kg
Tom Trbojevic 103kg
Matt Dufty. 83kg
Dufty played reggies last week the others were in first grade I rest my case

Zero Tackle says that Dufty is resigned until 2021. Hornsby should have left him as a half-back. He is too small for any other position. We should have kept Garrick as a full-back or winger however his form last year in Canterbury Cup was poor.

Agree-Dufty has to accept that the modern full-back position has passed people with his body type by. Has the vision and passing game to be an excellent half back but needs to develop a kicking game. HIs explosive speed would make him a constant threat like Steve Morris was way back in the 80s.
