Questions: Rugby Union

Hi everybody,

I am a fan of all professional sport in Australia (except AFL, gotta hate it when they try and shove their piece of crap game down your throat)

I grew up playing League in townsville, before moving to brisbane last year.

anyway living in Brisbane this year, one team caught my attention with the new rules in Rugby Union, the Reds.

So I am wondering, coming to a Rugby League forum, if some people that aren't neccessarily union fans so to think, but know something about rugby could answer some of these questions:

1. Do you think the new rule changes around the ruck enticed a much more interesting set of games in 2010 if you saw any.
2. Do you believe the wallabies are a chance at winning the bledisloe cup or Tri Nations in 2011.
3. Do you think the Wallabies are a good chance of winning the Rugby World Cup in 2011.
4. Do you rather support AFL or Rugby Union
5. Do you believe rugby union supporters are either i) arrogant or ii) conservative
6. Do you agree that if the scrum rules in rugby union are fixed then the game will have no more problems
7. If you attended any rugby union games this year, where you entertained?
8. If you watched any of the Queensland Reds games this year, did you rate them in terms of entertainment in regards to price?
9. Do you believe Rugby union is on a good tangent
10. Would you watch the All Blacks vs. The Wallabies at suncorp stadium next year if they beat new zealand at eden park a few weeks earlier, in other words the Tri Nations Finale
11. Any other thoughts about rugby union.

Don't answer them all if you don't want to / can't be bothered.

I'm just interested to see what the league community perceives union to be.

Thanks guys, and long live all professional sport bar AFL.

I would've posted this in the "Rugby Union" section but i feared that only union supporters would read it.

Thankyou for your input in advance.

Union is rapidly becomming a clone of League in 1953 - before limited tackles.

Clive Churchill could hop in a time machine and would need about a week of training to get used to a few rule differences and he would feel right at home playing Union.

More bullsh*t as usual from you Roopy... you make that claim without watching any amount of games this year.

About time you got here Jon...

1. Do you think the new rule changes around the ruck enticed a much more interesting set of games in 2010 if you saw any.

No.

2. Do you believe the wallabies are a chance at winning the bledisloe cup or Tri Nations in 2011.

More chance of winning the tri-nations because the Kiwis like to choke at the RWC apparently.

3. Do you think the Wallabies are a good chance of winning the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

Dunno.

4. Do you rather support AFL or Rugby Union.

Neither. But compared to my thoughts about AFL, I'm am almost a huge Union fan.

5. Do you believe rugby union supporters are either i) arrogant or ii) conservative

A.

6. Do you agree that if the scrum rules in rugby union are fixed then the game will have no more problems

No. I also beleive that in Australia, Union is close to terminal.

7. If you attended any rugby union games this year, where you entertained?

I didn't.

8. If you watched any of the Queensland Reds games this year, did you rate them in terms of entertainment in regards to price?

I didn't watch any.

9. Do you believe Rugby union is on a good tangent

Not in Australia.

10. Would you watch the All Blacks vs. The Wallabies at suncorp stadium next year if they beat new zealand at eden park a few weeks earlier, in other words the Tri Nations Finale

I wouldn't watch it if I was offered Elle McPherson for the night.

11. Any other thoughts about rugby union.

The game itself doesn't do anything for me any more. It used to be reasonably interesting but the last few times I watched it seemed to have become a snore-fest full of scrum-resets, penalties that no one seemed to know what they were for and penalty goals.

But the fans are the one's that convinced me to not bother again.

They seem to all be arrogant wankers. I wouldn't piss on an Australian Union fan if they were on fire. On the other hand, I would piss on a South African Union fan if he were on fire, but only if I'd drunk 10 litres of kero just beforehand.

1. Do you think the new rule changes around the ruck enticed a much more interesting set of games in 2010 if you saw any.

There werent any rule changes. They just enforced the rules as thery wee written.. and yes it made for an improved game

2. Do you believe the wallabies are a chance at winning the bledisloe cup or Tri Nations in 2011.

No and maybe... with only home and away games the Wallabies may win their home games but not away in NZ so they wont win the Bledisloe but may have enough to win the tri nations... but i doubt it.

3. Do you think the Wallabies are a good chance of winning the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

There are a half dozen teams with a chance and four with a good chance... will they? i doubt it... two years too early.

4. Do you rather support AFL or Rugby Union

AFL doesnt register over here so it isnt disliked just ignored.

5. Do you believe rugby union supporters are either i) arrogant or ii) conservative

neither... they are the same as everybody else... some are both some are neither.

6. Do you agree that if the scrum rules in rugby union are fixed then the game will have no more problems

The scrum rules are fine, the referreing of them is the issue... and there will always be problems and things to be improved.

7. If you attended any rugby union games this year, where you entertained?

Yes

8. If you watched any of the Queensland Reds games this year, did you rate them in terms of entertainment in regards to price?

They were the best Aussie team to watch... but that isnt saying much.

9. Do you believe Rugby union is on a good tangent

Where it is heading? yes.

10. Would you watch the All Blacks vs. The Wallabies at suncorp stadium next year if they beat new zealand at eden park a few weeks earlier, in other words the Tri Nations Finale

They wont, so its a moot point.

11. Any other thoughts about rugby union.

Its had a terrible few years with chopping and changing of the rules... now they have settled down with the right balance things are improving.

Answers:
1. Who cares?
2. Who are the Wallabies?
3. again? who are they? are you talking about the Wobblies?
4. Rugby Union, i can actually watch a full game of that but not hat other thing.
9. They have potential
10. No unless i was impressing a girl who likes Union.
11. They should make it more free flowing, less errors and more even throughout the contest of a match.

What new rule changes? But yes, it is an improved game

2. Do you believe the wallabies are a chance at winning the bledisloe cup or Tri Nations in 2011.

Yes

3. Do you think the Wallabies are a good chance of winning the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

Yes. Provided they can get some mongrel into the pack.

4. Do you rather support AFL or Rugby Union

Rugby union please

5. Do you believe rugby union supporters are either i) arrogant or ii) conservative

Neither.

6. Do you agree that if the scrum rules in rugby union are fixed then the game will have no more problems

What problems?

7. If you attended any rugby union games this year, where you entertained?

Yes.

8. If you watched any of the Queensland Reds games this year, did you rate them in terms of entertainment in regards to price?

I didn't go to any Reds matches but watched them all on TV. They were pretty darn good in terms of entertainment.

9. Do you believe Rugby union is on a good tangent

Yes.

10. Would you watch the All Blacks vs. The Wallabies at suncorp stadium next year if they beat new zealand at eden park a few weeks earlier, in other words the Tri Nations Finale

Yes, if I could get a ticket. And some free booze. And someone to drive me home and perhaps give me a foaming hand shandy before bed.

1. Do you think the new rule changes around the ruck enticed a much more interesting set of games in 2010 if you saw any.

Yes I do, they favoured the team with the ball, which encouraged teams to keep the ball in hand, and not kick it away because they feared giving away a penalty for not releasing in the ruck.

2. Do you believe the wallabies are a chance at winning the bledisloe cup or Tri Nations in 2011.

Nah, All Blacks will win this for sure.

3. Do you think the Wallabies are a good chance of winning the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

Yes. All Blacks definitely can still choke, plus we have a pretty easy run, if all goes to plan not having to face NZ or SA until the final.

4. Do you rather support AFL or Rugby Union

Rugby Union. I hate AFL, would never support it. Obviously don't like rugby union as much as league, but all my friends are into it and I don't mind it so I watch it most weekends.

5. Do you believe rugby union supporters are either i) arrogant or ii) conservative

Hmm, probably conservative. Coming from Brisbane, you don't hear much at all coming from Reds supporters, it's all Broncos up here.

6. Do you agree that if the scrum rules in rugby union are fixed then the game will have no more problems

Not necessarily, it would help, but the northern hemisphere teams just seem to have a completely different view on the way rugby should be played. Completely different. I don't know if they enjoy seeing penalty goals kicked instead of tries being scored, but I know what everyone in Aus, NZ and SA want to see.

7. If you attended any rugby union games this year, where you entertained?

I've been to a few premier grade matches this year, they're quite entertaining despite it not being the highest quality.. they're usually pretty high scoring. Went to Reds once and the Wallabies once (against Ireland). Can't say I was entertained during the Wallabies game, I spent most the game on my phone following the score of the entertaining Cowboys vs Sharks match in Townsville, but it was alright I guess.

8. If you watched any of the Queensland Reds games this year, did you rate them in terms of entertainment in regards to price?

Definitely. If more teams can play like that, rugby union will continue to go alright in terms of money and support in Australia.

9. Do you believe Rugby union is on a good tangent

Hard to say. Once again, I think rugby is in the Southern Hempisphere, not in the Northern Hemisphere though. The move to lengthen the Super Rugby Season is a positive one, although I'm still not sure whether Australian Rugby is ready for the addition of another team (Rebels)

10. Would you watch the All Blacks vs. The Wallabies at suncorp stadium next year if they beat new zealand at eden park a few weeks earlier, in other words the Tri Nations Finale

Yeah, I'd go and watch it even if it was a dead rubber

Post these on a League forum bitter about stuff that happened in the 1890's and 1940's :

"ZOMG UNION SUX! SO BORING! NAZIS.

Post similar questions on Union forum full of English mongs and arrogant gin swilling, prawn sandwich eaters from Randwick :

"LEAGUE IS FOR BOOFHEADS LOL, SO BORING, COMMIES"

Hope you weren't hoping to turn this into some sort of University thesis. Really don't know what else you were expecting.

Personally, being from New Zealand, like most of the average population from my experience, I support/watch/play both codes. Don't really care if the ball is put in between the legs or is recycled through a muddy free for all on the ground.

Pointless game stuck in the 1920's, administration is even more dated.

Yes

2. Do you believe the wallabies are a chance at winning the bledisloe cup or Tri Nations in 2011.

Only if they sort the forwards out. The Back Line can match it with the all backs most days.

3. Do you think the Wallabies are a good chance of winning the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

Again only if they sort the forwards out. The Back Line can match it with the all backs most days. They will also need some favourable results.

4. Do you rather support AFL or Rugby Union

Union, can't stand AFL

5. Do you believe rugby union supporters are either i) arrogant or ii) conservative

No

6. Do you agree that if the scrum rules in rugby union are fixed then the game will have no more problems

No, there will always be problems with every form of sport relating to rules when they fix one part, people will then be unhappy with a different rule, much like in rugby league.

7. If you attended any rugby union games this year, where you entertained?

Yes

8. If you watched any of the Queensland Reds games this year, did you rate them in terms of entertainment in regards to price?

Didn't get to one but saw them on TV a few times and they were certaintly the most exciting of the australian teams.

9. Do you believe Rugby union is on a good tangent

For the most part yes, contray to Hellteam i think Australian rugby needs the rebels, even if the majority of their team is going to be over 28 (or something) next year.

10. Would you watch the All Blacks vs. The Wallabies at suncorp stadium next year if they beat new zealand at eden park a few weeks earlier, in other words the Tri Nations Finale

Yes Love my rugby union, been to the test the past two years in Sydney.
