I think stats aside, the eye test suggests to me that while we miss a lot of tackles, we dont make a huge amount of clean misses and our scramble defence is good. It hurts in the sense of we end up back peddling and the opposition can get over the advantage line but often doesn't result in tries

Are we seriously glossing over the fact we've missed the most tackles this season because of "good scramble defence"? If we defended as we should, and not missed as many tackles, we wouldn't have to scramble and have players out of the line creating overlaps. May not result directly in tries at the time, but puts the opposition in good field position to score or force a repeat set.

Our defence is obviously an issue but we haven't let in many points and we have played the 3 best sides in the comp. Whare makes a huge difference as well

Could be worse we could be missing tackles and getting 40 and 50 put on us. So it's bad but could be far worse

I have been watching Cartwright and he seems to rush up a lot and misses tackles doing that. But because he is such a big unit, he nearly always knocks the attacker off balance and makes them easy meat for the other defenders. The "shooter" type defence can be very effective when the other team has big forwards.

Perhaps more discipline in advancing in a straight line and we will miss fewer tackles and need less scrambling. Although our effective scrambling speaks well of our enthusiasm and fitness.

Regarding Cleary playing firsts this weekend. I think its been misquoted from an article on the Panthers website http://www.penrithpanthers.com.au/news/2016/04/27/ciraldo_backs_young_.html
where Ciraldo was asked about the number of Penrith NYC players being selected to play for the Junior Kangaroos. At the end of the article he comments that some of the players will be given experience in the NSW cup once the SG ball players finish their season.

I cant see the club wanting a repeat of the TMM situation where a good young player gets badly injured playing against hardened first graders.

Yeah A lot of his misses are 'effective misses' if u can call them that, he rushes up and bounces off but he isn't getting monstered. Hopefully as he gets fitter and stronger some of these misses will turn into proper hits because he is capable of it. He has to improve obviously but I don't think he is as bad as his numbers suggest.

No just saying from watching games, our issue is missing tackles, but we are not copping bulk loads of points against because of the States reasons. We definitely need to fix it but as discussed above, most people perceive it as an organisatuon and reading the play situation rather than tackling technique. Thus easier to fix.
