Tried to find a thread if previously posted.
All apologies.
Heard during the week that Fifita and Jayden Csmpbell won't be playing.
They are two especially Campbell who tear us to shreds.
Hopefully they are slow starters.
But we are usually slow starters.
See how we go under Flanno.
Hopefully you starting the first competition game thread for 2024 will bring us success Jeff.

There is plenty of time for comments before the game, so I'm going to see the highlights/lowlights from the pre-season games and wait for Flanno's Tuesday team list for the game against the Titans.

Yep we will learn a lot in these next 2 weeks.. I have a feeling Flanno thought he knew what he wanted.. but after watching Sloan and Lomax and Bird etc.. even KFlan and Marschke.. I think he's now feeling there might be a better way to go.. amd im glad hes open to that, cause Griffin certainly wasnt.. but it doesnt give much time to train if they are still shuffling around.

A prop with no experience straight into the 2nd row when there are 2 maybe a third experienced/better edges available?

Finau did nothing to warrant selection albeit no real opportunity

I get the spine though

eusenhuth/RFM or leilua (if we get him) will start on the edge … Fifita to the bench with one of the above plus sele .. the other of the three edges will miss out and be 18th man

Egan/couchman can play reserves

The Loungeman Twins have failed to impress and need more time in KOE Cup. I was expecting some development and improvement over the off season but they failed to have any impact against a reserve grade rabbits team in that second half. All I saw was one good run from one of them, who then failed to remember the new down town rule and got penalised.

I would not put much in the Charity Shield match. NRL trials are seeing what works and doesn’t work. The teams are often 3/4 filled with lower grade young players. Early table points are as important as any other points but my expectations are not high for opening rounds. What I hope for the team gets better and better throughout the year. They play for 80 minutes unlike previous years where they faded away just before half time. Whether it was lack of fitness, confidence, attitude or all 3 I hope Flanno can change this and we see them fighting for the 7th or 8th at the end of the season. If that happens we may see some elite players willing to sign for 2025 and beyond. Time will tell. Go the Dragons!

I think from memory, Hasler has a great record against Saints. That is what worries me. We had some wood over the Dogs and when he joined I am pretty sure they beat us 90% of the games. Same when he was at Manly. If they have stats on coaches and which teams they have won against the most, Saints would be Hasler's team. I hope I am wrong.

GC have a stack of talent and losing Fafita and Campbell I feel won't hurt them too much.

We had a good record against Manly I though.
Before Hasler was at the Dogs.

I'm pretty sure that's the other way round, we've got a a good record against Manly overall and in particular against Desi. Head to Head stats show we've played 34 games since 1998 - Dragons 22 wins to Manly's 12. Desi was at Manly for 15 of those years, 7 at the Dogs.
And I think you'll find that the Doggies have had the wood on us a bit only in the last 6 years (after Desi left).
We've also got a good record against the Titans - Dragons 18-11 - although that's less in away games 6/14.

Rumble is not even close to ready and not on contract anyway, I think he might end up the cup fullback at some point this year, but jeremy said he will be the JF fullback.

Also cant put Sloan on the wing, his worst attribute is he gets pushed back on contact.. if he fixed that honestly hes good to go at fullback... but not the wing... every kick will go to him.. and they will smash him on return, potentially over the sideline. I'd rather a Tamale or SFinau if we need an extra body to step up.
