"Milking, Chris. Milking."

That is what you heard from the ref nearly every time that Houston got tackled. Didn't matter how long the tacklers held him down for, if there was a second effort from them while getting to his feet.

"Milking, Chris. Milking."

Yep and every ref will get a cheat sheet prior to our game and it will say things like;

Look for stripping, so an opposition player drops it cold and they blow a penalty against us for stripping.

Its a process that feeds itself, the refs blow a stripping penalty and then in the washup, it confirms their belief and the feedback loop gets stronger.

I am sure that by the letter of the law, the 7 penalties tonight were justified, it's just that Souths were doing exactly the same thing and not getting pinged.

On Bennett I sometimes wonder whether he really is all in with us, by all means focus on accountability for the players, which he is doing and he doesn't sugar coat things but he rarely ever really rips the refs a new one after a game like that. Now I would have hoped the honeyed approach may have reaped dividends and I did thing we'd get a better run from the refs under him but that's not the case.

Plenty of other coaches have made pressuring the refs an art form and it's paid dividends, in our case we are usually getting screwed, like tonight and Bennett just shrugs his shoulders and the cycle continues.

If we don't get on the front foot so with the refs, we can expect more of the same.

Not quite as hilarious as some of your fans thinking Korbin Sims owned George Burgess but hey ho

Hehehehehe the only thing Sims owns from George Burgess is his size 16 stud marks left on his face after Baby George trampled all over his sorry ass. The knights were blessed last night, they played Souths without their big Man, if baby George easily man handled them, imagine what Sam and Luke Burgess with Inglis, McQueen and Teo would of done.

Yeah but the thing that got me is, in the first 20 mins we were near perfect with penalties, gave away 1-2 maybe, but then got 5 against us AFTER we were up 12-0. What happened in that second 20 of the first half? Did we suddenly start holding them down longer, stand offside more often? I dont get it.

Getting a little one sided with the whole "SOUTHS HAD SOOO MANY TOP PLAYERS OUT" Yes you did, but we had more then them! I'm not complaining about that as the loss but a little general sense to look at both teams would be fair.

I think both teams played very well with the rosters they had, It was a good quality game in the weather conditions. Damn shame about our discipline weather the penalties were just or not it changed the game completely as we had them in their corner and dominating.

I'm still livid about the tackle on McKinnon not being picked up!! It was an illegal tackle 2 years ago, I don't know what has happened to that rule!! It was plain as day and still has me shitted off that it wasn't mentioned by anyone!

Either all the boys played hard and strong and kept themselves in the game. Disappointing that Mullen and Roberts didn't use Naiquama (sp) more effectively in backline movements, I saw Kev throw his arms up in there on a number occasions because they went the other way.

Good game, Good effort by team, just a yard or two below the top teams im afraid. If we were able to keep our top players on the field more often then it'd be very interesting to see what happens. Hopefully that happens later in year!!

Yes, we did get caned in the penalties after we were 12-0 up which does look a bit dodgy, but at the end of the day we need to be smarter away from home. We'll never get 50-50 calls and we need to stop giving the refs reason to penalise us. Discipline has been our problem for a few of our games this year and could be blamed for a few of the losses.

All in all I thought Naiqama wasn't that special, Tyrone was a bit of a mixed bag, Snowden was good and Mullo was in everything - probably guilty of trying too hard.

If Kev doesn't get a regular gig somewhere in the NRL for next season it will be criminal. Completely unrealistic, but I would prefer him over Boyd. Darius is a linkman only, and seems to have a terrible on field attitude (constantly appealing for ghost penalties leading to slow play the balls, lack of commitment to kick returns and that shit thing he does when a backline movement runs out of room where he stops). Kev has that elite level burst of quickness that you see in guys like Slater, Barba, young Mini, young Bowen or Injury free Stewart. Plenty that he needs to add to his game, but the play for the McKinnon try would not have been possible with Boyd, but Kev is more than capable of serving in the linkman role as evidenced by the second try.

Penalty count last night was a huge factor. Fairly soft trys from Sutton and Burgess didn't help. Did anyone else see how Souths got away with blatant block plays when defending high kicks? We actually played pretty well, the completion rate in the first half was impressive.

Definitely sliding down the ladder after the last month of footy.
Hopefully we can stay in touch with the top 8 until we can get some of our injured players back. Makes a big difference missing players with experience.
Pretty disappointed with the loss but we'll move on and have a good showing at home next week.

Very good press conference from Bennett. He is a man of few words usually, but got on bit of a roll last night when questioned.

Pretty much called on the NRLC to stop pandering to the wants of the coaches and to eliminate the 3rd-man-in-around-the-legs tackle from the game.

Never knew the injury concerns during the game were so bad either. Apparently Hilder shouldn't have returned to the field during the 2nd half and Mantellato (?? hard to hear names from the press during the press conference) picked up a broken rib or cartilage damage and shouldn't have been out there either.

Ditto on that.
Can a player be put on report after the game?

Really good point by Bennett point about the 3rd man in around the legs being about slowing the play the ball down and basically being poor tackling technique that rips off the fans. I agree totally.

Would have been from the Issac Luke tackle. He was really struggling after that. Could hardly stay in position or keep up with play. Good, tough effort to play to the end.

Thought we did well considering the penalties given away. We certainly could do with a S. Burgess, G. Burgess, A. Fifita type player. They are simply winning games for their team. Freaks.

Korbin is our man for that Spot On!! Seeing him take it to Burgess was just great!! Two great young talents going at it was just unreal to watch!! I was hoping Bennett would leave him on longer then usual!!

Pray he stays!

Also one thing I have noticed is our lack of ability with properly using unique talent in our team! Kev should be taught to linger around the middle, ala when Fa'alongo made a break no-one was there to back him up. If that was Souths, Merritt would have been there in a second and 6pts!! We don't Use Aku properly a lot of the time either, I never see any new plays being made for decoys running and aku Bursting onto a ball through the middle or out wide. Korbin needs to be a wide running back rower targeting a small player!!

These tactical plays are no-where to be seen by the Knights, mostly just the back line boyd movement which is good but when is read by a smart team, we struggle to provide much else.

I think Boyd's defense is a lot better than Kev's.

Thought the same when I saw it happen. Bedsy is/was usually pretty good at backing up, same with Gids, but we do need our fullback doing that (esp when those 2 aren't there).

Speaking of support players, watching Albert Kelly rip teams apart it's kind of sad that we didn't give him more of a chance

I was about to say the same.

He is carving it up for the Titans and I would suggest we would have won some of the games we have lost if he was our half. He has all the skills and is streets ahead of Roberts in all facets of the game.

Did we not give Kelly a decent go? Didn't he play a whole season of NSW Cup?
