These stats would indicate he is a reliable goal kicker

Yep, I just looked at his stats over at RugbyLeagueProject and he was a 77% kicker in his Canberra days and looks to have been the 1st choice kicker his entire SL career, kicking 100+ goals a year. There are no attempts/successful stats for SL but the numbers look pretty good.

Maybe Wayne identified 2 holes in our team and managed to fix both in one recruitment

It actually frustrates me he was not pushed to 7 earlier last Friday. In ten minutes he turned the match.

We win that game comfortably if Gower plays the second half at 7.

Even if Gids isn't right for Saturday night Roberts should be moved to the bench to spell Bedsy at hooker.

Ok, some of you are going on about how Gower got us back in the game in the final 10, but he still didn't steer us to a win in golden point. We had chances, all eyes were on Mullo and that's the only place we went, Gower wasn't involved.

I'm not saying you're wrong that Gower has been very good for us, but give Tyrone a chance. He is a good player, just has some things to learn still.

2010 looks to have been his best year, kicking 104 and missing only 16.

Most years he seems to average about 20 missed

Watched Dobson against Wigan last night. He is class. Clearly a better player than Roberts. I think the writing may be on the wall for Tyrone. Gower has to be half for the remainder of the year. It actually frustrates me he was not pushed to 7 earlier last Friday. In ten minutes he turned the match.

For the game I was at work so I didn't get in front of a TV until 10 minutes to go of regular time. What I noticed straight away is how exhausted the Broncos were. It appeared that if any of our players ran hard with a bit of support, then we were going to inevitably score. I don't want to take to much away from Gower, but the last 10 minutes were going to make any knights player look better then they otherwise would have.

This.

Gower was a bit of a passenger in golden point - if he gives us more direction, why didn't he step up to the plate when everything went through Mullen?

How long has Mullo been here? How long has Gower been here?

Golden point rightfully went to Mullo. He missed some good opportunities. Not Gower's fault, and as far as I am concerned it was great to see Mullo step up in this situation.

He didnt execute, but he got some decent chances. We looked alot better in this GP than any other I can remember.

Why didn't Mullen kick it as soon as he got it off the scrum?

He did, he just took too long and it got charged down.

The set prior to that is where we blew it, had great field position and the Broncos scrambling backwards, and we took two more pointless one-out hit-ups on their line which helped them get their line set.

How many field goals did Mullen miss? 4? That is hardly him stepping up in golden point. We looked directionless in those extra 10 minutes and about the only positive to gain from that period of time was that Brisbane were equally poor.

Gower was brought to the club to give us much needed experience in the halves and hooking roles. He has played over 300 club games, 23 times for his country, 8 times for NSW and won a premiership as a halfback. You'd think that he would have had some more impact in a game like last Friday's. Can you honestly imagine he was out there on the field thinking that he needed to take a back seat to Mullen?

And he could've at least been in position to have a go at field goal to give the defence some doubt.

Anyway, lets move on. Anything could happen this weekend. I'm sure we all want to see Gower and Roberts play out of their skin.

He did.

But as already mentioned, we blew it in the set prior with two meaningless hit-ups after we were in prime position. Shouldn't that be up to the halfback to direct the team around to get in good position?

Mullos the captain. If we're in that kind of position, he should be screaming for the ball

Exactly. Friday was a time when we really needed Gower to step up and draw on his experience but he didn't. He could have at least stepped into position to take a field goal to put a bit of uncertainty into the opposition. Brisbane had no difficulty putting pressure on Mullo because they knew he was the only one who was going to take a kick. He might have hit one if Gower had have at least gotten in there, created some doubt in the opposition and taken some pressure off.

I can't really fault Mullo for missing those kicks when he was the only one actually trying anything. He might have stepped up and failed but at least he stepped up. Unfortunately that's something I thought Gower would do for us but he did nothing. Not exactly the type of play you want to see in your halfback at the important end of the season. And yet most people seem to want Roberts dropped for him.

You are judging his actions by the result, not the action on its merit.

He got himself in position, demanded the ball and had a few shots.

They results were poor, but I have never seen Mullo take charge in that situation before.

I am happy for him to continue to do it.

I agree, Gower could have put some doubt in the mind, but so could Darius. We do not have a set play for a FG as evident by the lack of protection Mullo got.

Gower should have had more impact! LOL. Very hard to please. we were going nowhere until Gower went to 7. If Tyrone could kick at all we would have won. This focus on Brisbane running out of steam is interesting cos we had a backrower playing on one leg. Always an excuse why we don't get the credit for the comeback , as opposed to the actual tactic behind a result. We wore Brisbane down with our terrific middle third defence. Slowed them down. Scott missed a tackle for a try to be scored! Big deal. It happens. Bennett saw a window to shift Gower and we exploited it. Golden point is a waste of time. Why should a side have to lose to keep ratings up? The end result was a fair one.

Missed 2 that directly led to soft tries. He should have been hooked when he first got injured

We can talk all we want about Tyrone and Gower missing goals or Mullen failing to slot a FG in extra time but the fact remains we would have won if Beau had been fit or been replaced with a fit player.

Deary me if its true that Gower will start at 7 and roberts will be hooked out of the 17 its a true shamble.

So much for looking towards the future and what it will do to you roberts confidence when he has a pensioner taking his spot.

Gower may turn into the missing piece of the puzzle when it comes to challenging for the premiership this year. But hey, lets not pick him as it might hurt poor little Tyrone's feelings...
