I’ve held off making my call on this for a long time past, but that game was the absolute rock-bottom for me. All of the flaws in the club, the coach, the captain and the team were on full display. Watching Saints play feels like rubber-necking at the scene of an accident.

So just had a thought…Benny said if they sacked the coach, they’d be setting the team back 4 years…well…the team was just as awful 4 years ago and losing games the exact same way. Why not sack all coaches and players and set the team back 13 years to 2010…just my thoughts after waking up…still feeling the rage

The guys tried really hard. That’s the good thing. But they couldn’t get the job done. Dumb mistakes cost us as did some questionable reffing. But you know it’s our stupidity at times that’s allows the refs the easy penalty against us.
Bud Sully has to come back in, Amone or Mbye (another trier) can fight over the 14 & 19 jerseys.

I was disappointed that the last try was through between Su’a and Hunt. Who I thought were our two best players up to that point.

How poor was Amone?? Offered nothing.

If Bud plays yesterday we win. End of story.

But we'll see the same team next week and Bud in reserves.
Completely agree. Never understood the wraps on Amone even before the stuff that happened during the off-season. He’s average. And yesterday he played like our last 5/8, Corey Norman. Tackled multiple times on nothing plays. Perhaps that’s why Griffin likes him.
Sullivan plays yesterday, we win.

Never understood the wraps on Amone either, plus on many of our other juniors, they just don't seem to have it. I'm not sure what Matt Feagi offers other than a few solid hit ups out of our own end, he just seems to lack speed, which is critical to a winger, especially when the rest of our backline is slow as well.

I just give up trying to analyse the Dragons.

Another year gone and just a waste even at this early stage because we have shown a lack of any positive consistency to complete any task.

We will be going through a further rebuilding stage given that Hook will disappear and players chopped and changed for the new year. It's like our club has been copped with earthquakes for over 10 years and our foundations have to be re-stabilised to start all over, time and time again.

Following this club has been really frustrating and disappointing to say the least.

Is there anybody on this Forum honestly thinking that we have a chance of turning the corner in the next few years? I am definitely of the opinion that we won't.

Our stocks all round are not great unfortunately in my opinion. It would take a miracle to get the players from our juniors and any outside good signings to have the players needed to be REALLY competitive. To me while we do have many juniors, I don't think that they are coached and developed well enough to be like those stronger/faster forwards and backs that so many of the other clubs have.

Our spine is not strong, the backs are up and down and lack true speed and power, our forwards are not consistently big and powerful and fast enough. We lack thinkers terribly.

I don't like to be negative, but I am being honest to myself and to others.

I agree with with your first paragraph RedVee. At least we had a go, but those dropped balls really bit us on the arse.

5/8 is a real problem. Both Sullivan and Amone show glimpses of attacking skills, but both are very ordinary in defence and the last thing we need is ordinary in defence. Like most on here I was calling out for Liddle to get back on.

It certainly was one game we should have won. But that is the lot of a Dragons fan.

To be fair to Feagai how many opportunities do you see him actually given clean ball and in a scoring opportunity? He scored a fantastic solo try last year when he had some space to work with. However he’s just used mostly as a hit up machine trying to make yardage out of our own half. I don’t by any means think he’s a superstar but he’d look much better with the benefit of a decent pack of forwards and better attacking structures. In my opinion he’s just another of a long line of juniors suffering from a lack of good coaching, imaginative / modern game plans and stuck behind a sub par pack of forwards that get dominated week after week.

I think there is a chance of turning things around but first we need to sack Griffin and sign Hasler. From there on we will see a marked improvement:

We will recruit a new fullback
Sloan will play 5
Sullivan will play 7
Hunt will play 9
Ravalawa will play 11
Liddle will play 14

Hasler will select his assistant coaches and his recruitment officer.

Yhr Board will replace Haran as Head of Football

Good new players will be recruited as a result of these changes.

I am a bit more optimistic about the future.
You look at Newcastle now, and many other teams in the past who have gone from the cellar to the top 8 in a matter of one to two seasons.
There is definitely enough talent there for us to be a lot higher up the ladder.
Sullivan and both Couchmans, plus Fifita and hopefully Coric are just a few who can help lead us out of the hole we are in.
It all gets back to the coach though, plus the team both on and off the field the next coach puts around him.
The short term draw and future is going to be a tough road, but it is one we just have to ride out until things turn around, hopefully sooner rather than later.

If you follow the AFL at all you will be aware of St. Kilda, a team with a strong roster but a loser coach. couldnt get above 9th. They got ruthless for once and made a sudden and surprising decision to sack the coach ahead of their 150th season and appoint a competent experienced guy with a plan. Four weeks in they’re 4-0 and flying. Turnarounds are possible, this is not a bad roster we have, just need some changes in the leadership area, on and off the field and the team can become better, they’re mentally gone.

Two players are top class Hunt and Sua. That’s acknowledged. The Dolphins are probably hatching a plan to get Sua early one way or another. Hunt in particular is carrying the team. He is a marvellous player and because we haven’t got any X factor players he is heavily marked up when he has the ball.

Are Sullivan and Amone really the future? They have both played NRL a good achievement. I’m still waiting to see consistent quality play from both of them. Sloan is a fast intuitive player, but gets rag dolled on kick returns. I believe Ramsey is the best fullback in the club; sadly may never play again.

Yesterdays game could have gone either way, just like the Sharks game last week when they were beaten on the bell. It happens to every team one time or another.

Totally agree mate. The Illawarra just doesn’t have the same calibre of juniors like the Riff or even Parra. We need to look outside our own backward for players. Or here’s an idea…like many other successful clubs do. Go out and buy established first graders.

Just want to comment (again) on Lomax.
I know he scored tremendous try yesterday and good on him, but his defense is absolutely woeful, so bad that it looks almost deliberate ? (missing tackles, arm grabbing, running the wrong way, etc etc ), maybe the injured thumb/hand is restricting him? I said it before that the divided camp looks like Lomax is the chief Hook hater and is doing what he can on the field to see him gone.
