This game reminded me a lot of 22’, hunt all the touches, all the kicking, too much mbye, block plays, Amone slow and predictable, outside backs too slow, lomax missing goals

depressing but Hook may only have 3-4 more weeks
I predicted at the start of the season by round 12 we would be on 10 points, out of contention and the coach gone. We are spot on target.

Just want to comment (again) on Lomax.
I know he scored tremendous try yesterday and good on him, but his defense is absolutely woeful, so bad that it looks almost deliberate ? (missing tackles, arm grabbing, running the wrong way, etc etc ), maybe the injured thumb/hand is restricting him? I said it before that the divided camp looks like Lomax is the chief Hook hater and is doing what he can on the field to see him gone.
I can't believe that this is the only post that has raised this point. I thought it was the most disgraceful defence that I have seen for many many years from a supposed 1st grade player. Thanks for posting it.

Everything pointed to the Dragons having to win this game, we had our confidence up after the Dolphins, the Titans were missing some major players, the track was fast, the weather was good. We played dumb stupid football, Amone was a non entity, I called it at half time for him to step up, we missed tackles , we gave away dumb penalties, and lost the game in the last 2 min. I really think that some major changes need to be made sooner rather than later. Now is the Time to get the coach we want in, now, not in 5-6 months now and give him the rest of the season to work out what he needs to do for 2024. There is no way we will go anywhere near the 8, I'm predicting 16th tops. This nonsense between Lomax and Hunt if its there needs to be sorted ASAP, this is now a building year for 2024 and no less, so get the coach who can either piss them off to ressies or unite us as ONE playing group. This coach is unable to develop plans for attack with either Sloan or Suli, everything revolves around Hunt, and its got to stop, we need several points of difference not one. The slide down the ladder has begun not that we had far to go, so lets give ourselves a fighting chance for next year. Its got to start NOW !!! I hate to think how embarrassing it will be for the rest of the year.

Excellent analysis @be55 . As I keep trying to explain to my long suffering missus - "there is just no deception in our attack." The opposition can see from a kilometre away who is going to get the ball and defend accordingly. Our successful attack relies on a defensive mistake from the opposition or an unexpected offload. Not nearly good enough!
I have to agree with almost every poster but I totally agree with the comment "there is no deception in our attack". In fact as a long suffering supporter it looks to me that the team plan is to just try and run over the opposition, unfortunately these days defence is just to good. there are no sweeping backline plays, noone seems to be able to run into a gaps. Even the bombed 3 on 1 in the first half would have been child's play for u7's.

Five things I took from this game.

1. Hook would be happy to play Hunt and 12 forwards. Suli may as well be playing in the forwards as he is being used as a crash test dummy. Every week the same- running into multiple defenders who are very familiar with the Dragons play book- the shortest book in the world. I can't remember when he last made a break or was one on one with his opposite in a sweeping backline movement.

2. I can only assume that Amone was playing to instructions not to kick or get in Hunt's way as he did nothing. He looked lost. Hunt played just about every spot in the backline except wing and full-back. His last try was scored in the centres. But this is what he was forced to do as we don't have penetration in our backline.

3. Our lack of backline speed which I lamented before the season started- especially with Moga our backup. Feagai and Ravalawa looked like statues compared to the Titans wingers.

4. This was 15v16 - assuming the Wests Tigers stay 17. Browns cows wandering around a paddock. Neither side had a clue how to attack but at least the Titans could boast being without three regulars in Brimson, Foran and Verrills .

5. Rumour has it that Ben Hornby is the brains behind the humming Rolls Royce Souths backline. If true, he should be the next Head Coach at the Dragons as our backline is more like a backfiring V Dub and has been for years.

It was no where near first grade standard. If Lomax doesn't play, I think we win that game. Needs to be dropped, but won't be.

I just give up trying to analyse the Dragons.

Another year gone and just a waste even at this early stage because we have shown a lack of any positive consistency to complete any task.

We will be going through a further rebuilding stage given that Hook will disappear and players chopped and changed for the new year. It's like our club has been copped with earthquakes for over 10 years and our foundations have to be re-stabilised to start all over, time and time again.

Following this club has been really frustrating and disappointing to say the least.

Is there anybody on this Forum honestly thinking that we have a chance of turning the corner in the next few years? I am definitely of the opinion that we won't.
Depends on who we get as coach.

We have arguable the best hooker in the game playing 7. He has no problem playing hooker for rep honors. No push back from Hunt there. Need a coach with a spine to stand up to him and make him play there.
Bloody oath! To not have even tried it despite 2 fruitless seasons at 7 (with Griffin in charge) and star SOO performances at 9 is an indicator someone who should not be is pulling the strings. We become a top 6 team overnight with Hunt at 9 and playing a roving halves role when Liddle comes on, otherwise we remain inconsistent and plain.

This is exactly what happens when you have 1 play maker who also happens to be the cpt. If you watch any successful team in the last few years they have a play maker either side of the ruck with different attacking structures. Inside the opponents 20m you must be able to create structures and opportunities that stretch or places the opposition defensive line in doubt. This includes sweeping moves with both your playmakers on one side of the ruck creating an additional player or opening up the other side of the ruck with the injection of your fullback into the movement. You’re right we swing the ball right to left then left to right. Any decent defence just slides and stays static. Speed is a great commodity to have but I was at the ground yesterday and the Titans new fullback Campbell made 18 runs for 275m Sloan 12 runs for 100m. It appeared to me that Sloan did not try to inject himself especially through the ruck area where offloads were possible. This team is not only divided but uncertain as to their individual roles. Just a humble view from an old broken down coach.
Sorry coach but Sami the winger ran for 275 m not Campbell the fullback, he only ran for 183 m 😳
