Rabittohs future looking shaky

An email to members, about trying to get memberships.
Genius marketing. Try and sell the product, only to those who have already purchased it. :sarcasm:

I think the grandstanding has more to do with the way he presented it, instead of what was said. Such as "[don't worry our generous sponsors and myself have got it covered this time]", or his bragging about the hotel room he was in has been paid for by someone other than himself, etc etc.

The guy is a tool in every possible way, looking for attention. He bailed the club out big time, but those very foundations he laid, get rockier every few months. Souths need to perform next year, or he will probably bail. Progress.

Its called "member get member" and yes it is a great marketing ploy. Take it from someone who has a marketing degree that if you can get the general public to go out and sell your product for you then you will up your sales significantly. It's a simple case of having more sales people out there than you are actually paying for.

No where in his speech did he say that he was cutting ties completely with the club and on a number of prior occasions he has said that he is in it for the long haul so he isn't going anywhere. He is simply laying the reality down to the members. Put all the negative spin on it that you like.

As for him personally. He is a mega rich hollywood actor so its probably par for the course that he would be a little removed from reality. South's is probably te only thing that he actually has to fork out for.

Seeing you're from a marketing background, that sort of marketing also only generally works in competitive markets where products are not known to the purchaser. For example it may work very well for a new brand of shampoo, it may not work very well for a football club as most people already align themselves with a product, and know exactly what they're getting before they purchase, with or without peer to peer marketing.

You are right though, peer to peer marketing is a very effective form of advertising, but generally not overly effective in this type of market.

But didn't PHaC say he was in it for the long haul as well? He didn't last a long time. What is your definition of long? Rusty may be saying he is in it for the long haul with having a say in management or giving input into the club, doesn't mean he will continue to fiscally support them to the extent he has to date. The inverse could be said as well, and that is exactly what he intends to do.

The fact that he is saying such things after such a short period in his tenure at the club, and PHaC pulling out as well is not a positive sign for the club, that is unless they get the numbers of memberships they are demanding.

So every Rabbitoh's fan in this county (and outside it) wastes their money on poker machines, and you happen to know this as fact?

And I'm the idiot?

If you're not already drinking this, I suggest you start.

I can't help that, and by the looks of it, neither can you.

I'm not on any kind of pension.

Who said the 50,000 can all afford to get ticketed membership? Just because you love a team doesn't mean you can fork out 200 - 300 bucks a year on a membership.

I myself would love to be able to get even just an out of towners for the Dragons, and even though it is only 70 odd dollars, after child support, 12 months rego, rent and numerous bills, it is a bit of a stretch.

My original post was basically just to show that this tonearm wanker was just pidgeonholing fans based on a geographical location. I mean sure, I know as well as the next person that all Sharks fans have 2 heads, and all Cowboys fans are 'Rumpigs' and 'Bundy Bitches', but really, he's done it a few times to other team fans and it's pretty f**ken average.

You left out that all Dragon fans have a$$holes the size of cricket ball.

And I'm the idiot?

Finally....a queen supporter who can admit it.....

Here he is, the Forrest Gump of the forum.

You seem to have an intricate knowledge of the names of these poker machines, Tiny Todger.

f**k me, some you need to get a root.

I was pretty impressed with Rusty.

How many other rich supporters have put their money where their mouth is? Max Delmege.
It is up to the fans to get behind their club. Souths have great membership packages.

Now it's time for the bumper sticker brigade to buy something a little bit more expensive than a sticker saying "In George we Trust"

As much as it pains me to say it, South Sydney RLFC are leading the way in membership and merchandise.

Too bad so many of their fans are paranoid freaks.

If you emphasise any word you like in a sentence you'll come out sounding like a f**king wanker.

You SOUND like A f**king wanker.

See what I mean?

And it's Queen of the Nile.

How many of the RL Football clubs have 15000 paid up members, not leagues clubs, Souths have about 6000 which I think is a lot more that some of the noise makers on here.
At least they are trying, instead of doing what most of the clubs who supporters abuse Crowe and PHAC,what will your club do when the money from the Leagues club runs out,and the next TV deal is not what your club hoped for.
What are you going to do then, you will have no club to watch at all while the short sighted people who caused it will still be in Cushy jobs.
Crowe is right, the RL clubs need to stand on there own two feet, get members who can vote not this sham that passes for democracy in some clubs

You must have missed the part in your text book where they mention that peer to peer marketing is very effective when the product has a high level of emotional involvement. Either way, it has worked very well for South's so far this year and it worked well for us last year as well.

As for PHaC, he is still involved and he is still a financial contributor. He just isn't running the show on his own anymore. When he came on board, no one expected him to get his hands dirty, but to his credit, he was in it up to his arm pits. Now he has taken a step back but a lot of the initiatives which have been succesful for the club have his handywork written all over them. Once again, let me point out that South Sydney is a business and from day one of the new owners taking over, it has been run that way. They also outlined a plan on day one and have stuck to it basically to the letter. Part of that plan was to make South Sydney self sufficient and its nearly there. If Russell is planning to tighten the purse strings that means that we are pretty close to being able to fend for ourselves.

Reading the dribble on this forum makes me cringe

FACT - ALL Clubs (bar maybe Broncos) need to pick up their game - that is also the case with Souths
FACT - Souths would likely be dead NOW without Crowe and HaC.

Piggins has no idea - he wonders what will be left if they happened to leave - lets think - Fans buy it back for $1 (I think they can find that) - then they get the increased and higher qaulity facilities, higher membership base, better team then for two decades. A profile that is better (and more positive) than for longer. Lets think is all that worth a buck?

If you were actually at that march, you'd know that a fair percentage of those who marched were not Souths fans. There was a very high representation of fans from other clubs, all who marched in solidarity and their clubs jerseys to protest what they thought was an injustice.

I'll be the first to admit that although our crowd figures are amongst the best of the Sydney clubs, I'm still pretty dissappointed in the numbers we get. Tell me one fan of a Sydney club who isn't dissappointed in their clubs crowd figures though? Patronage for Rugby League games in Sydney is sh!thouse. This could have something to do with Sydney fans being fickle or it could have something to do with the fact that the media organisation that owns our game has turned it into something best watched on tv.

I still maintain that what Crowe said yesterday is not a negative statement, but rather a positive. He wants our club to be self sufficient and not reliant on handouts from anyone. So do I. He wants our club to have double the amount of members it currently has. So do I. As an owner, how do you acheive objectives like this? You invest and you work and you market and sometimes, you even release a video where you point out certain realities to stakeholders.

So what did he say that could be taken to be a negative? The only statement that he made was that he would not be the clubs cash cow forever. Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that this was always going to be the case. Max Delmege did something similar with Manly this year. He has built them up to the point where they are the best team in the comp and now he is reducing his involvement, while his team is capitalising on the spoils of success. Rusty is working hard to follow the Manly model.

Good response.

I think what Crowe has said is spot on. He has given notice to the supporters of the club that they need to put their hands in their pockets to make the membership model work. It's also giving notice to anyone who thought because a rich movie star bought the club that all of the troubles would disappear.

Crowe is really backing his business plan by making it known to people, hey, if you want your team around get off your backsides and get involved. I dont think he will abandon Souths, I do however think that he needs to turn the tide and public thought back onto what Souths need to be successfull off field. Kudos to him for doing what he has.
