Its funny how the Raiders played their best game of the season against the Dragons same as the Bronco's, Cowboys, Sharks, Dogs and Penrith. All those teams were near full completion at half time, had a heap of possession and defended great off their line.
That is because they were playing against a team that can't score and have no confidence. I hate hearing how well the other team played. They do so because the Saints let them. They make them look good. Saints were much better than they are now and they still have a core of the team they had last year. Poor coaching is the only excuse here.
I started to realise in 2009/2010 that opposition teams all seemed to be putting in 'season best performances' against us, we would still often win, but it was dire/close/gritty, and there was always referee controversy, we won & loss games on the bounce of a ball.
Eventually you start to click that you cant keep blaming factors outside your own club.
The thing Bennett always strived to avoid, the thing that he said made a winning club, was closing out matches (not letting oppositions back in), and getting away from the syndrome of 'Which team would fall over the line @ the 80minute mark', which is exactly where we are at in 2012, flip a coin which team scores last in the last 5 minutes.
In terms of 2011, I think you under-estimate the impact of our attacking Trio of Boyd-Cooper-Morris, Morris is out of position/combination, Cooper is there but struggled with injury, & Boyd is gone, thats the bulk of our attack in the toilet, and if you throw in Gasnier's abilities on the right, then we have very little to throw at an opposition.
Chase/Vidot/Hornby and our forwards (like Prior/Hunt/Latimore/Fein etc) are fine for filler players, but we are seriously lacking 2+ genuine stars in our squad & Sowie will struggle on his own, hes very talented, but hes not a complete player, he needs a halfback to complement him.
