Raiders game talk

Vidot makes good yardage, best in the team last night - 176m. I would keep him whilst he he is doing this despite the few errors every game.

I accept that he's got good power with the ball in hand, but his yardage doesn't look so great if you subtract the yards he gifted Canberra by being stripped twice. I'm not saying dump him altogether just give him a week at Cutters to put the acid on him to improve his ball control. Putting Bronx to fullback would mean Flo and Morris can go to their favoured wings and we have Coops and Chase for the centres.

didnt you get the memo
its an obstruction to be supporting the ball carrier and being pushed by a dumb shit winger into the only bloke capable of getting near a try saving tackle.
Disgrace

simple fact is i cant explain it, you blokes cant explain it, neither coaching staff have a clue one way or the other but every year, we pull out our best performance and so far, as hard as you've tried (and last night you blokes did) its just not good enough

i cant figure it out, the last 10 years v the saints we should have a record aiken to ours against the storm.

I said to a good mate before the game "if we're within a try with 10 to go, we'll win"
the reason is, body language, you must have seen it in the final 5 minutes, not a single raider on the field thought we'd lose and not a single saints player thought they'd win. The hoodoo is completely mental but in the dying moments, that's all that counts

you've probably saved us from the spoon and ended your season, but mentally every year the saints come to lose. Wayne Bennett's comments last year post match conference were very telling. Culturally as a fan base, as a club, this game is a loss. Until that changes it will always be a loss because your done before a ball is kicked.

Same deal with us and Melbourne

Spot on mate. Did you notice the a few of the Raiders' players reactions when they scored just before half-time? Most of them were having a laugh, like they were just cruising and 70m tries are the norm playing against this mob in the Red V. I knew unless we scored next after Rein's 2nd, we'd find a way to lose.

Just like last year and many years before that, some of the tries we conceded weren't up to first grade standard. This was just about the best chance we had to win down here but our side just lacks ticker and can't win the big moments this season.

It happened against Penrith, Souths, Manly..and it happened again on Monday night. f*cking disappointing.

I know it's not a good thing to wonder what might have been but let's just for argument sake say we won the two golden point matches against Penriff and Souffs and monday's match...

We would be on 22 points with a bye coming up which would take us to 24...

so close yet so far...

More often than not Vidot's errors lead to tries and to at least one loss ( Souffs) if not another ,i would rather reliable than the metres gained by a winger who are going to make them by kick returns and breaks.

A disallowed try saved us from defeat by a weakened G Coast and we lose to a weakened Raiders team, lose to a pathetic Panthers, scrape home v a crap Roosters side and struggle to beat the worst Parra side for 50 years.
We are so far.

Well said, put the shoe on the other foot, imagine if we had of lost most or all of those close games we won, it would be wooden spoon here we come with daylight second. I will always love the Dragons, but I see worrying times ahead indeed.

Just got back from the game and see the predictable comments. Hardly anyone however has commented on how good the Raiders played. That first half performance from them was one of the best I have seen this year regarding effort and lack of mistakes, they looked like a Wayne Bennet team.

The Dragons showed great effort and as long as I see that effort I will still be supporting Steve Price. Some of the senior players looked frustrated that things were not working for them. A fair rub of the green with ref calls and a couple of wins will get things back under control I'm sure.

Come on Dragons!

I will make the point again with the win against the storm for reference ..... How good where the raiders? I thought the dragons would have beat many teams on Monday night but the raiders were bloody awesome. Price and the team can't take a trick at the moment but if we give them support, true support, so they don't start panicking loose confidence and structure we can turn things around.

Its funny how the Raiders played their best game of the season against the Dragons same as the Bronco's, Cowboys, Sharks, Dogs and Penrith. All those teams were near full completion at half time, had a heap of possession and defended great off their line.

That is because they were playing against a team that can't score and have no confidence. I hate hearing how well the other team played. They do so because the Saints let them. They make them look good. Saints were much better than they are now and they still have a core of the team they had last year. Poor coaching is the only excuse here.

I started to realise in 2009/2010 that opposition teams all seemed to be putting in 'season best performances' against us, we would still often win, but it was dire/close/gritty, and there was always referee controversy, we won & loss games on the bounce of a ball. Eventually you start to click that you cant keep blaming factors outside your own club.

The thing Bennett always strived to avoid, the thing that he said made a winning club, was closing out matches (not letting oppositions back in), and getting away from the syndrome of 'Which team would fall over the line @ the 80minute mark', which is exactly where we are at in 2012, flip a coin which team scores last in the last 5 minutes.

In terms of 2011, I think you under-estimate the impact of our attacking Trio of Boyd-Cooper-Morris, Morris is out of position/combination, Cooper is there but struggled with injury, & Boyd is gone, thats the bulk of our attack in the toilet, and if you throw in Gasnier's abilities on the right, then we have very little to throw at an opposition.

Chase/Vidot/Hornby and our forwards (like Prior/Hunt/Latimore/Fein etc) are fine for filler players, but we are seriously lacking 2+ genuine stars in our squad & Sowie will struggle on his own, hes very talented, but hes not a complete player, he needs a halfback to complement him.
