Did he walk or was he pushed? only recently he was saying how he intends to be coaching them in next RLWC. There seemed to be an old boys group bagging him for wanting to be NSW and Kiwi coach.

Probably fair to be honest. There would be plenty of young players who are are eligible for both NZ & NSW but can only play for one or the other under current rules, conflict of interest would definitely come in to it.

Ok, so now the Sydney Tele is reporting Wayne Bennett has put his hands up for the Kiwi job!

Wasn’t the whole charade about Maguire was that he was a Aussie? Just because Bennett isn’t QLD Coach, he would be just as passionate as to QLD that Maguire would be to NSW. Lol..

I understood it was less that Maguire was an Australian, more that he would be coaching both NSW & NZ at the same time and this was perceived by some as a 'conflict of interest' and that he'd put the higher paying Blues role ahead of the NZ role when it came to advising juniors what path to take.

Bennett isn't coaching Queensland at the moment, so that conflict of interest argument doesn't stand, doesn't mean that people won't want him coaching the Kiwis, though in fairness to Bennett, it's not like he hasn't been involved before (07-09) and he has always been pro international Rugby League.

Ideal scenario for NZ would be to pair him with someone they see as a long term option for the Kiwis and allow them to learn off the likes of a Bennett (like Kearney did) for a couple of years before running it all on their own.

Rugby League: The French team remained serious against Kenya

The first of the two tests between Kenya and France (the second this Tuesday, December 5 at 4 p.m.) largely turned to the advantage of the Blues, who won in the exotic Nairobi stadium (78-6). The dual mission has been fulfilled. That of scoring points in the world ranking (France is 9th) and that of offering Kenya an event on its land in the hope of developing discipline in this care of East Africa.

Nairobi, its International Trade Fair show ground Arena, its dining room as a changing room, its volunteers who mark the pitch until 45 minutes before kick-off. The scene is set by a Kenyan Federation which does things, but at the last moment, like the sound system hastily installed to be able to offer the anthems after the presentation of the teams to the French ambassador in Nairobi. The complex located east of Nairobi was therefore the scene of this first confrontation between the two nations, in the middle of a stadium where a few baboons acted as spectators, attracted by the noise, but remaining peacefully under the unoccupied stand. Kenya – France has above all been an attraction for a local federation which is trying to launch its discipline, in the shadow of rugby 7 which is vampirizing all rugby. “In Kenya, sport is very academic and yes the children play rugby, but they don't know XIII,” explains Pierre Menager, who has lived in Kenya for 5 years and who came to the stadium with two primary schools from Nairobi

On the match side, there was no photo with already nine tries in the first half. A hat-trick, from the powerful New Caledonian of St-Gaudens, Hnangan-Budden, an achievement from the SOA winger, Baptise Pourchi, two others, from his opposite Saint-Gaudinois winger, Matthieu Pons and a double from Quentin Crunel (Limoux ) and the French XIII already led 42-0 at the break, facing a team that was technically limited, but extremely courageous. The Kenyans, formidable fighters, above all put their bodies in opposition, even if it meant losing feathers with two knockouts in the first half and another right after the restart. In the second half, Maxime Grésèque's players remained diligent. “They run all the time, they don't give up and even if they suffered in terms of physical density, their courage is to be saluted” reacted Limoux third row, Paolo Dall'Asta.

The "Simba" who arrive from the XV and the 7 rarely had the ball and as soon as they had possession, the French defense did the work to push them to make a mistake. The Blues had, after 20 hours of travel absorbed the day before, the 25 degrees and the altitude (1800 meters), to make efforts to offer play, options and stifle the "reds" who were suffering under the charges of the Tricolor pillars.

Interesting

7 out of top 10 teams are from the Pacific

Though Niue looks way too low

We will need a Emerging nation world cup again

Doesn't help when most of the European nations aren't playing games.

Outside of the 2022 World Cup, Wales hasn't played a Men's Test in 5 years, Ireland & Scotland aren't much better.
