i guess i'd start a thread in regards to rap music in general.

anything that anyone would like to ask or say about anything or anyone in the rap industry is welcome.

i would first like to say that i never knew about the flooding in rza's basement until bobby digital (how ironic) mentioned it in another thread.

i mean, is there anything at all that was salvaged?

i want to know more.

Bobby, spill your guts.

Crap with a silent C ! lolololololol

Anyway I remember the story about the Wu how the original members apparently shelled out $50 each to a recording studio to record a demo or whatever. But I read the other day that RZA actually paid the studio the cash upfront himself, didn't tell the Clan, then went and asked the rest of them to shell out the $50 as a test of loyalty, to see who would pay up, who really believed in the Wu. Pretty interesting. Apparantly ODB didn't have any money on him lol

Dodger... original story I'd heard years ago. But the updated version I read in a mag. Hip Hop Connection... pommy magazine.

Red Bear... I love the Herd too but how much american rubbish have you 'herd'? Plenty of superior stuff out there

i thought the wu paid $100?

i saw that documentary and mef man said they all fronted the $100 nothing about rza paid it himself

rza paid the dude who is about to sue cypress hill for $30m $10,000 as a mark of "respect" to sample one of his songs when he didn't want cash in the first place, just recognition

apparently the mastered version of cuban linx was part of the sh*t lost in the flood ... 400 songs were destroyed he reckons ... if you do the math;
rza being a dust head at the time creating the dopest beats + 400 songs = 350 of them had to have been classic material ...

interesting, i might have another listen to raekwon's album again, its been a while.

where can you get documentaries from?

i tried through torrent sites but nothing

i know there used to be a store in the city, soul sense and anthem records on george street, but there no longer there anymore.
there was also one at bankstown but that moved too.

TT... in the magazine interview RZA says he never told the other members it was a test even 'to this day'.

Dodger... try UN Sounds. An underground store - literally. It's in a tunnel underground between Wynyard and Pitt St. Dude has a lot of stuff there but he takes requests as well.

i don't like the idea of the biggie movie ... but it's in the works and atleast they cast biggie right ... aslong as it's told through fact and not biggies version of "fact" which was more fiction

haha rza is sneaky like that ...

there's so many wu stories like that ...

i'm gonna dig up some of the interviews and sh*t of the wu ... there's a good one on swedish or danish tv where it's method man and i think ODB being interviewed circa 97 ... real in depth sh*t

another one is for some german hip hop show around 95

and then there's the u-god/method man fight on the bus hahaha uey caught feelings

I cant wait to see this Biggie flick, as he is one of the best MC's to bless the mic.

Alot of Wu fans in the house tonight huh.

Do any of you get into those diss tracks? Im not talking about the Ja Rule vs 50 Cent beef, both cant rap and their diss tracks are absolute crap.

A few that come to mind are:

Ice Cube (vs N.W.A) - No Vaseline
NAS (vs Jay-Z and Roca-fella records) Ether
Tupac (Notorious B.I.G and the East Coast) - Hit em up

the bitch in yoo had ice cube shook ... dude never replied, common won with a KO on that but cube is owner to the best diss ever in no vaseline

i hated ether it was garbage ... takeover > ether ... nas came with corny punches like "gay z and cockafella records" ... jay-z got personal with the 'you know who, did you know what, with you know who, let's keep that between me and you' ... and how nas' catalogue is utter sh*t without illmatic

but i thought the supa ugly was better than takeover

hit em up was pretty garbage too ... lyrically against all odds was better than hit em up ... hit em up was almost a constant repeat of 'f**k you i don't like you' ...

eminem's nail in the coffin and the source and crazy too

2nd round KO c ould have been so much better but was still pretty good ... ll's track was weak lol

anyone heard ll's diss to ice t, mc hammer and kool moe dee "to da break of dawn"? ... ll came through with that

and then there's the originoo war ... the bridge wars ... so many disses came out of that

ice cube killa is another one that's fiyah

after i make dinner i'm comin through with the diss track heat

I hate Nelly, and theres also one from Canibus to LLCOOLJ called '2nd Round KO' Im not feeling LL, never did.

Have you heard LL's comeback diss "The Ripper Strikes Back" ??? f**kin amazing comeback diss. He took every line Canibus spits at him and turned it around against him IE: Canibus said "99% of your fans wear high heels and LL counters with "Ask Canibus, he ain't understandin this, Cause ninety-nine percent of his fans, don't exist" Rumour had it Eminem actually ghostwrote the track for LL before he became famous. If you look at the rhyme patterns it's definitely bears a resemblance to Eminem's work. Wyclef approached Eminem not long after and asked him if he wrote the track. I'm not sure what Em said back though. Then Eminem kicked off a battle with Canibus a few years later, and I don't think Canibus ever responded. Em cas callin him "Canada-bitch" and all this sh*t. It was hilarious.

Other straight up non subliminal diss tracks I like (which you haven't mentioned):

DJ Quik - "Dollaz & Sense" against MC Eiht. It contains maybe the greatest, yet simplest diss line ever. "E.I.H.T? now should I continue?...Yeah you left out the G cos the G AINT IN YOU".

Eazy E - "Real Muthaf**kin G's" against Dr. Dre, Snoop and the whole deathrow. f**kin beautiful. "how a gentleman could switch so quick from wearin lipstick, to smokin on chronic at picnics?" (Dre wearing 80s style glam make up on the cover of the World Class wreckin cru albums)
drepast2.jpg
LOL.
"you're only 60 pounds when yer wet and wearin boots" (Snoop) I still crack up everytime I hear that sh*t.

Jay-Z - "Takeover" I just love how Jay runs through all his adversaries in this track, and it's capped off by the perfect finishing line "and all you other cats throwing shots at Jigga, you only gets half a bar - f**k yall niggaz" He annhilated Prodigy, and floored Nas momentarily. Ether was obviously an unbelievable comeback, but if Jay had made a full song about Nas it may of been different. That "Superugly" freestyle was pretty weak.

Krayzie Bone - Aint Said No Names. A subliminal diss to the Rza after what Rza said on the Wu-Tang Forever 2nd disc intro. (Bone took it personally).

"Aw s**t, these gentlemen done started over here, they talking s**t, say we ain't rappin' (What?). gentlemen has got the nerve and look who platinum. gentlemen been running off at the mouth before they think and look at the reality I'm a speak on it so bitch, be mad at me, Now first of all, y'all can't even talk y'all need to go get your speech right. And then while you at it, you need quit sampling all that bulls**t, and get your beats tight. Let's meet up at midnight in the alley where nobody know what's happening, What's happening? You wanna pull out some guns or do some rapping? A gentleman don't want no problems but then if he wants to cause it, a nine millimeter, sawed off, a .380, TEC-9, coming out my closet, Probably only have to pull a muthaf**kin' .22, probably ust say, Boo, and watch you gentlemen scuffle, scatter everywhere, them gentlemen up outta there. That studio s**t been known to give gentlemen like you wig-splits, I hear you talking, woofing gentleman, but I really can't feel s**t. Now face it, gentleman, rap just ain't
the same, especially since my Mo Thug family encountered the game. The fame is pain, for this I'll pay the price, and gentlemen trying to take my life. Always feelin' violent vibes, just because I'm shining now. In the hood, it was sarcastic sh*t like, You paid now. Been awhile since you came around. So you telling me that I ain't down? But first of all, when I was broke as f**k, you gentlemen did not give a f**k, Now all of the sudden ya loving me when we drunk, playa hata. We know who you are, (can find out/''cause I know) where you live, better protect your kids. F**k it, let's blow up his crib. 10-o'clock news, Nobody lived. "

No one at the time knew Bone was that close to ending up in an all out war with Wu-Tang. It would of been monumental.
