Rape allegation

THE woman who says she may have been raped at the unit of a Wests Tigers rugby league player was not a cheerleader, a cheer squad spokeswoman said today.

Police are conducting forensic tests after a 26-year-old woman said she may have been sexually assaulted and possibly drugged at a unit in Five Dock, in Sydney's inner-west, on Monday.

The woman is believed to have partied with Wests Tigers players in inner-city Kings Cross as part of the team's end of season celebrations on Sunday night.

Media reports said she then accompanied some players and others to Tigers player Ryan O'Hara's unit on William Street, Five Dock, to continue celebrating.

Police have not suggested Mr O'Hara is a party to the complaint.

Sydney Promotional Dancers coordinator Lisa Ince, who oversees three NRL cheer squads, confirmed the woman was not a cheerleader.

"The girl allegedly involved in the incident is not a Wests Tigers cheerleader," she said, declining to comment further.

When asked if the woman belonged to another cheer squad, she replied: "She is not part of any NRL squad".

Cheerleaders are not allowed to fraternise with players and have been sacked in the past for doing so.

A NSW Police spokeswoman would not comment further on the investigation, including on a Fairfax newspaper report that said the woman woke in the unit to find her underwear rearranged and clothing dishevelled.

Detectives from the Child Protection and Sex Crimes Squad and Burwood Local Area Command were investigating the allegation.

Tigers chief executive Steve Noyce has said the club had not been informed of any specific allegations against any players.

Even if no police charges eventuate from these latest allegations, some mud will stick.

Why is the child protection and sex crimes squad looking into this?? 26 doesnt seem like a child incident (or is the child protection part seperate from the sex crimes part and its one big unit covering child crimes and all age sexual assault??)
