Don't get me wrong, my point wasnt intended as a "bring back deano" thing, that's long gone, we all know that.

I was just pointing out what our team NEEDS in a hooker. I believe sully can be a top class 80 minute hooker, i just think it needs HIM to accept that he ain't gunna make it as an NRL halfback, his skills are obviously far more suited to the hooking role, god knows he has the heart to play there, also the guile and the genuine will to win football games, a true little competitor in the greatest sense.

I just think he still hasnt accepted that yet, I think he hopes to make his name as a half as noddys understudy.

It's a crossroads now of course, raper has made a move this week that pretty much tells sully that his future, at OUR club anyway, is in the number 9 jumper. Sully can either throw in the towel and go play number 7 for souths, nth QLD or the gold coast in a couple of years, OR he can apply himself just a wee bit more and work on all those subtle things I spoke of, and in my opinion will become one of the games top 3 80 minute hookers withint 18 months, IN the sharks colours !

I also believe he will captain the club one day.

Well McSharkie...What I should have said was, I miss a Deano-style hooker.

I honestly don't see that many of them in the league at the moment. Beekershark mentioned Buderus, Woolford and Senter.

Senter's a grub, and past it. Woolford is OK, but not top shelf, and Buderus is the benchmark and deservedly the current NSW SOO captain, so we've got buckley's there.

Priddis is probably the other benchmark.

Wing is NOT a hooker. He's a damn fine utility/impact player, or a solid back liner (basically at fullback, centre, half or 5/8, he'll cope), but he's NOT a traditional hooker in the mould described by Beekershark, like Walters and Elias and DEANO.

Riddell? I dunno where he really belongs, but it ain't at #9 in my book.

I watch riddel play and I see him take hit ups from the taps, hit ups in the first 3 tackles of a set, break tackles at will at times, and look for the big shoulder charge.....

Goal kicking second rower to me all day long.

I don't agree.
Noddy goes for the season, Sully is in I reckon. & that is a real rugby league possibility.
the only reason he isn't there now is because he is so good at hooker & Aitken could go well.
Sully is a bit light to be doing the defensive work like tht for 80 minutes
he still gets bumped a lot.

Besides, WFT happened to our GREAT discovery at hooker last year, Bozzie? is he injured or something, or what?

Beeker was giving him 18 months to reach the level you are talking about Reefy.

Apparently Boz is injured but he has been playing second row in PL lately. I don't think he is in Rapers plans.

yeeeeesss.....sooo, ummm That would be why Hilder is playing hooker until SULLY comes on and then Hilder goes to da sekond row !

whilst aitken is fit, he will start in the halves, raper has made that move and unless he changes his team this week, it would seem he intends it staying that way until the nod master is baaack !

So much for Sludge predicting, late last year, that we had FOUND our long term #9.

Anyway McSharkie, I honestly don't know what we should do for a long term rake at the moment. I do know that a settled pack is essential, and that we are doing ourselves NO favours by slotting all these different blokes into the 9 jumper wekk in week out.

I remember thinking Hilder would be an option when he first came along 18 months ago. But he's getting too big and he's going to be more useful long term at lock or 2nd row IMO.

What about Dumas? He's solid without being huge, so that speed and agility around the play the ball should be OK.

I really don't know. I mean, it just rips me to bits knowing that there is a 28 or 29 year old bloke being wasted in an early retirement living up the road from our home ground. I know he's not coming back, but FFS it's a hell of a waste.

Looks like Pat Gibson is not in Raper's plans either. He's never let anyone down when he plays first grade. Enthusiastic and a real talker.

I think Hilder is best at lock.

Sully has more to offer than most hookers with his short to medium kicking game.

We have a hooker, Hilder he is suited too it, too big no way, too small for a 2nd rower yes.
