The expectation on Widdop to achieve is so great yet the ability of some around him is so limited that it all implodes as does Widdop.
The talk that we have a strong roster I find interesting as I wouldn't see too many of our current players getting poached and upgraded by another team let alone attract big TPA's.
I think the truth is we over rated many players we had and also those who came and we have found out the horrible truth is that many lack natural ability and instincts and the coaching staff can't teach them anything that will improve their game.
Yes some have stood out (Dugan & Aitken in particular) but in all honesty it wouldn't take too much for anyone to look the standout in our team.
Widdop is definitely performing well below his best and it is concerning as we may never see the best of him with the lunatics running the so called game plan and attacking structures.
I am sure if Widdop went to another team with slightly better cattle and an attacking mind set he would carve up against the likes of us.
Spot on Old Timer.
Skills and instincts are such an integral part of what makes a good player and our players have been found out badly, particularly our spine. Sure, coaches provide the structure and the game plan, but at the end of the day, its up to the players to make the right decisions on the field.
Back rowers and centres knowing which line to run, Halves and hookers knowing when to pass or when to take on the line, halves knowing when to throw a cut out pass, or hit the inside man depending on who can beat a defender, a fullback knowing when to go himself or pass and release his winger etc etc.
All of the above is decided in a split second during the flow of a game and goes beyond what coaching can do. We paid over $2m for a spine that should be able to execute all of the above and make right decisions.
Unfortunately, we've been badly short changed.
