Widdop is an international, I really think he is not consistent week in week out. Just like his goal kicking, some weeks nails from sideline, others slices them from almost in front. He is also stuck in the parallel universe of 'D' and by the time he has a chance to get the ball, is too stuffed and mentally exhausted...and sideways running is his fallback.

It's not really a big deal. Roosters and Broncos have English internationals playing in the NSW and QLD Cups.

Did you read my reply...I answered your question with courtesy. I am not interested in debating your agendas. On Widdop, the Club when making him Capt stated that they see him as being a future leader for years to come at the club. Again, whether I agree or not is a mute point.

I did but more carefully just now. So you are in favor of dropping Benji for McCrone.... As I said about the "rocket scientists" who blame Benji for Widdop's ineptitude and sheer lack of ability.

Widdop had an ordinary game today Vas.

Benji played better than most.

Fact remains Widdop is a good player.

He is not the sole cause of the mess the club finds itself in.

His play is symptomatic, not the cause.

I wouldn't go so far as to call him "good" but he usually isn't "bad", it's just that he is a terrible playmaker which is what he is in the team to do.

No, he didn't. Though the good news is that Benji played so you and the rocket scientists can blame Benji for Widdop's ineptitude. Makes sense, doesn't it:??

Now how can I believe you Vas? He plays well and you say he plays like poos. He plays like poos and you say he plays like poos. We win, and you say it was Benji or a team effort. We lose and you say it was all Widdops fault. I can't possibly believe you when you are incapable of unbiased opinion!

So as a sucker for punishment I had to at least watch the highlights as I can't at this stage bring myself to watch the whole game and you have forgot to mention that Gaz is credited with our 2 try assists! You also forgot to mention that he was very unlucky to not score our 1st try thanks to one of those 'obstructions'. Now, I know you will say Aitkens try should not have been deemed an assist but didn't he just do what we have all been calling for and giving quality early ball to our centres? And the 2nd was a quality ball again on a wrap around.

As to blaming anyone, please feel free to highlight when I have blamed Benji or any other player? I may have blamed Rein at times but never have I blamed Benji or any other player minus Rein. The blame for all our woes lays at the feet of Doust and Mary. No one else. For the most part I believe we have the cattle just not the coach. On a side note, suggesting Widdop is out the door and on the open market wouldn't attract plenty of interest from the best coaches in the game is ridiculous. Another occasion you cannot get past your blatant bias against him.

I have almost always credited Dugan though last year Benji was very good as well. He was certainly close to the best against the Shonkies this year and again today.

All he does is catch and pass 5 meters away from the enemy defensive line. Is that enough for a playmaker in your opinion? As I said earlier on this thread, the move he put on with Benji for the second try is the best pass I can remember seeing him throw..... and it really wasn't that good. As a result I upped his passing rating from 1.0/10 to 2.0/10.

Yep. Completely ridiculous just like it was when I ridiculed the recruitment of Kurt Mann and the idea of having him play fullback moving Dugan to the centres. And just like it has been ridiculous that I have been saying Widdop is a f**king terrible playmaker. How many halves have been tried with Widdop and how many has he struck up a good combination with?

The only hope Widdop has of staying with Dragons is if McGregor isn't sacked. 4 absolute shockers in 9 games should have him looking at a stint in the NSW Cup but as McGregor made him captain and called him "a marquee player" 2 weeks ago, he isn't under any pressure. His fate is tied to McGregors.

You forgot some pathetically disrespectful supporters. One with multiple personality disorder in particular

Well played today by your mob Mills...great gutsy effort....at 28 to 6 at half time one would think you would be home and hosed, but I knew once the Sun went down and the moon came out The Broncos would be a different side...after all their used to having the big advantage by playing Friday nites week in week out in Brisbane.....they havnt had to buy sunscreen for 5 years...thought they could stand in the shade behind the goalposts in the first half......

And she replied 'Yeah, but your not the Dragons!'

It was a good game and the Sharks looked plenty hungry. They are in with a real show this year Mills.

Really?
Interesting.

All this banging on about Widdop really becomes boring.

I would accept they had a remote knowledge of the game if the were saying he is poo because his forward pack are playing like busted arses.

Seriously, the halves will have stuff all impact in attack if the forwards aren't getting the side forward momentum.

Time will tell.

As for the Dragons the forwards really didn't man up today. Sitting at the surf club watching the game and don't know how many times I was like oh FFS

The club has clearly said that our Future lies with Widdop. Whether I agree or disagree is a mute point. It seems that Benji and widdop as a combo is not working. Benji on his day is an incredible footballer but in saying that he is at the twilight of his career and it seems like he is not attracting many contract offers from other teams (according to the press).

Our current side has many issues. The above combo being one part of the equation. McCrone simplifies our attack and plays more direct so I would probably go with McCrone for this reason.

That being said..McCrone and Benji are not long term solutions. Our biggest problem is our coach way above and beyond our playing roster.
Under a different coach I am sure that Widdop and Benji would click, but we don't have that luxury.

So there you have it. Smarty would drop Benji for McCrone because McCrone "simplifies the attack". To be more simple in attack is precisely what this team needs.
