He's NSW's (Origin) greatest ever hooker. He was better than Kerrod Walters, but not Steve obviously.

It's funny but a lot people forget Kerrod Walters was really good at the start of his career. And he had a blinder in the 1989 series which QLD won 3-0. Then he was suspended for a incident against Wests which resulted in him missing origin and he could never get his spot in the QLD team back after that as Steve Walters would always be chosen ahead of him.

Kerrod never gets talked about as being one of the best and he really was looking like he could be anything when his career started but by the end of his career he became a bit of an afterthought.

Don't forget Benny Elias made the quick tap famous (before it died in the modern game). He was the kind of player who use to hedge his bets and even take a quick tap in his own half. He had all the other skills in the repertoire in kicks and was a very skilled player. Its a shame we talk just as much if not more of his antics off the field and on it that his talent gets hidden in his shadow of his behavior.

I love the Steve Walters story of telling benny in an origin game to hurry up, Steve had a test match to play. Reminds me of how Robbie thought he was as good as cam after winning one series

Definitely underrated. Seems like a knob but super talented.

He was better than Steve Walters who didn't have nowhere skills of Elias. Walters was a great defender but couldn't kick and didn't hands like Elias.

Elias was before his time and changed the way dummy half was played.

You forgot to mention that Elias was an asshole

We should bring back striking in the ruck.
They got rid of it to clean up the ruck but look at it now. It is filthy. Might as well bring back a clever old skill and contest for the ball. Benny would agree. Who else?

I remember that.

Up until that suspension Kerrod was on fire.

Wasnt the same player after it.

Didn't say Gibson selected him. Just that he wasn't stupid and realised his immense value to NSW. As Elias then showed in the first game of 1990. He cut Qld up inside the first 6 tackles when he dummied, made a clean break and unloaded to Clyde.

But thanks anyway Phil.

Nor did I say that Gould didn't recognise his value either. I merely stated a well known story which has been publicly told by countless players who witnessed it occur, and Elias's response to it. In fact you are the one, who by your posts has implied that Gould didn't recognise Elias's value, when I never said such a thing. Stop trying to put words, which I never said, in my mouth thanks.

Can anyone think of a better marker than Benny? He was great at marker. He could rake the ball then he could charge down the ball. Probably gave lip as well.
I use to think marker was the defensive position for the hooker in the same way DH was the attacking position for hooker. Was that ever the case?

Never said that either...

Obviously you do not know the meaning of the word "implied". Whilst you look that up also look up "tone" as based on the compostion and tone of your posts it is what was interpreted as being implied. If that is not what is meant, then I strongly suggest you are more precise in your syntax in the future.

Craig Gower played his best football at half. Saw him towel up Andrew Johns on several occasions. Now that was an underrated player, perhaps because he was such a dickhead on the booze.

The NRL really ought to award him the Dally M medal he won fair and square in 2003.
No he was a better dummy half then he was half.. Still a great halfback but the team he had around him in 03 and 04 compared to the plodders he had around him previous to that was the reason he succeeded as much as he did in the 7...
