Ray Price should be on this list

EELS MEDIA GAFFEWE had to pick ourselves up off the floor when the Eels sent us a shortlist of five candidates to be named the inaugural champion of Parramatta and Ray Price’s name was left off the list.

We checked with the Eels’ media department and were assured the list of Peter Sterling, Brett Kenny, Mick Cronin, Steve Ella and Ken Thornett was correct.

When we rang Price, the club’s last premiership-winning captain in 1986, he was understandably fuming, especially given the short list contained all backs.

We were surprised then when the Eels attempted to tell a rival media organisation there was no final five shortlist.

For the record, we’ve still got the email from the club’s media department with the said shortlist

So who is telling the truth?

Somehow I dont think they counted the votes the day before the event and announcement.

There were 16 eligible candidates - all from the original legends team and this included Price.
Current legends, the Legends selection committee and fans/members were arsed to vote from the 16 for the Champion.

Of course at some point there would have been a short-list. It would have been those from the 16 that had polled the most votes. If Pricey didnt make this list then maybe he should be having a go at those that voted and not the Club itself.

One of the criteria for the Champion included behaviour and support of the club off the field and since retiring. There may even be some who didnt vote for Ray sitting back saying his latest dummy spit justified their non-vote.

I dont think anyone is doubting Pricey's value as a player and a leader and he is rightly so probably the most inspirational player we have ever had, but it doesnt make him the Champion of Parramatta if you read the criteria.

The CRITERIA then sucks. It is setup that way so as they the voters can then justify any ridiculous outcome. Who gives a toss as to what a former players opinions are once he retires. That is called politics and you will always have supporters and detractors.

This is supposed to be the best ON FIELD player legend that the club has ever produced.

Just because you don't agree with someones politics, especially when their heart is in the right place should have nothing to do with it. He has never behaved in a criminal or disgusting way like say a few of those said immortals have.

The guy is Mr Parramatta. He should have been in the last 5 at the very least.

It doesn't suck. It is what it is. Just means the award isn't what you think it is.

Congratulations to Captain Cayless & The Crow. My issue with this is why did this Champion Of Parramatta thing have to be done at all? All of the blokes in the Hall Of Fame deserve to be there, even Pay who I reckon is very questionable. I wonder if the club will award a Champion Of Parramatta every season?

I can reveal that there will be a champion revealed every year for the next five years. After this, a "Champion of Champions" award will be bestowed on someone. To win this award, they will have to cook a risotto within 15 mins, run an "It's a knockout" obstacle course, undertake bubbling at Northies for 30 straight seconds, eat 4 roast chickens and then consume a carton of New.

If Tim Smith was still at the club he could set records.

This

Just look at the 'judging panel'
even though he was named in the top 16? just because one person thinks he is in the top 5 parra players all time doesn't mean everyone will.

it's like that stupid immortals thin rlw do. I would have put fittler in there when johns was named but he ain't there
